Swiss cyclist Johann Tschopp has won the 20th and penultimate stage of the Giro d’Italia, the first Swiss victory since Alex Zülle won three stages in 1998.

Tschopp finished the 178 kilometres from Bormio to Ponte di Legno-Tonale in 5 hours, 26 minutes, 47 seconds.
Cadel Evans was second and Ivan Basso squeezed ahead of Michele Scarponi for third, extended his overall lead by 24 seconds to 1 minute, 15 seconds.
Tschopp took control of the race on the descent from the Cima Coppi and held his form despite strong pressure from Evans over the closing stages.
On Sunday, Verona hosts the final stage, a 15-kilometre time trial.
The Giro is the second most prominent stage race in the world, after the Tour de France, and along with the Tour de France and the Road World Cycling Championship it makes up the Triple Crown of Cycling.
