Calcutta: India opener Virender Sehwag is working hard to attain full fitness so that he can be a part of the Indian squad for the tour of England, which starts next month.

“I have to sit out and do my rehab because of the shoulder injury. I am getting better and working hard on my rehab. Hopefully, I will be back soon. I am trying very hard to be fit for England tours,” Sehwag said on this week’s special edition of ICC Cricket World Radio Show.

Sehwag admitted that it is difficult to sit at home and watch his teammates slog it out (in the West Indies).

“It is very difficult when you are sitting at home and watching India playing against the West Indies. It’s very frustrating, but you can’t do anything.”

About India maintaining the No.1 rank in Tests, Sehwag said that it would take a lot of effort on the part of the players to help the team stay at the top for a considerable period of time.

“We are maintaining the No.1 position from the last one year or so… Reaching that position is difficult and it is even more difficult to stay there for a longer time.”

“If we can beat the West Indies, England and Australia (this year), we can prove that we really are the No.1 team,” Sehwag said.

India have been holding the No.1 Test ranking since December 2009 when they dethroned South Africa after beating Sri Lanka at home by a 2-0 margin.

India now lead second-ranked South Africa by a comfortable 11-point margin with England in the third position and Australia in the fifth.
