Zinnia Elegans- Yellow

Zinnia Elegans, known as common zinnia, is an old garden favorite with many cultivars available. They are the most commonly grown types of zinnias. They are bushy, leafy annuals that typically grow 1-3’ (less frequently to 4’) tall on upright, hairy, branching stems. Zinnias are popular garden flowers because they come in a wide range of flower colors and shapes, and they can withstand hot summer temperatures. They are grown in fertile, humus-rich, and well-drained soil, in an area with full sun. All have semi-double to double, dahlia-like blooms or blooms of rolled petals. These easy-to-grow flowers are great for plant containers in urban balcony gardens. Zinnias are used as colorful, long-lasting additions to cut flower bouquets. Care for cut zinnias by placing the flowers in a vase with clean, cool water, and change the water every few days.

Zinnias grow and bloom best in full sun and thrive in most soil types, as long as drainage is good. Water your zinnia flowers regularly so the potting soil stays constantly moist and not soggy. Fertilizing once a month or smaller doses every two weeks will keep your zinnia plants flowering and looking their best.
