The conversations around diversity and inclusivity have never been more important in fashion as they are now. . Browse through the recently concluded autumn/winter 2020 shows, and you’ll notice that the charts of diverse casting are only moving in an upward direction at the four major fashion capitals. While Indian models has always found a place on designer mood boards, international brands have only now begun to recognise the power of their discerning audience.

From the roster at Feat. Artists, Nandini Malwade and Kangkan Rabha have emerged as the breakout faces of the season. Malwade shot an exclusive with photographer Jamie Hawkesworth for designer Supriya Lele at 17. She walked for Simone Rocha, Koche, Rokh and had her moment opening the Y/project show this season.
Assam-born Kangkan Rabha walked for Bode, Etudes and Kitsune this season. His breakthrough was an exclusive show for Ermenegildo Zegna in Milan, followed by shows for Rick Owens, Etudes and OAMC. Madhulika Sharma, also from Assam, was spotted at Bibhu Mohapatra in New York as well, followed by Ralph & Russo in Paris.

Two major names of the moment, Radhika Nair and Dipti Sharma, are turning muse to designers across the world. Nair, who worked exclusively with Burberry this season, was the first Indian model to walk for Balenciaga in 2017. And 24-year-old Sharma—now a regular on noted line-ups including Mugler and Burberry—made headlines as the first Indian face to star in Balenciaga’s spring/summer 2019 campaign.

Another name to note this season is Aishwarya Gupta, from Lucknow. Represented by Anima Creative Management, the breakout face who opened the Nina Ricci show, followed by walking for Elie Saab and Gauchere in Paris. Rising names, Priyal Shah and Pratik Shetty, were included in shows like Y/Project, Balmain, Loewe and Thom Browne among others.
