Funeral services for William G. (Jerry) Paul were held at 2:00 pm May 3, 2014. Pastors Mark Taylor and Keith Stephan officiated at the service at the Plentywood Lutheran Church. Cremation followed the funeral service with interment of cremated remains at a later date. Casketbearers were Grant Paul, Sam Balikian, Robert Lucas, Brian Null, and all the rest of Jerry?s family and friends; the Directors, Staff, and Clients of Glenwood were considered Honorary Bearers. Tim Marsh, Jason Strand, and Greg and Helmer Lee were ushers.
William G. (Jerry) Paul was born in Everett, Washington on January 30, 1946 the second son of William J. Paul and Henriette (Zoeller) Paul. He went to be with his Lord on April 28, 2014. In his youth Jerry's family moved to Marysville, Washington where he grew up on Tulare Beach. It was there that he developed his love for boating, water skiing, crabbing and fishing. He got his first boat at the age of twelve. Jerry was a natural athlete excelling at anything he tried. He graduated from Marysville High School and for a time attended Everett Community College. In 1965 he married Deanna Rae Scheuflel and together they had three children before divorcing. From the first time he picked up a guitar at the age of fourteen his passion for playing music grew. He began his life-long driving career at 21, a career he loved all of his life, first as a truck driver and then a bus driver for Everett Transit for 19 years. On June 20, 1981 Jerry married his life mate Dorinda (Person) Gary and together they built a wonderful life for nearly 33 years. Together Jerry and Dorie built Rainbow Ice Cream Novelties, a business they operated for 20 years. It was a family venture enjoyed by their children and grandchildren alike. During this time Jerry acquired the name "Captain Ice Cream". In 1990 they relocated their business to Spokane which made it possible to be closer to Lake Roosevelt, their favorite place to spend time with their children and grandchildren. In 1995 a music booking brought Jerry and Dorie to the Blue Moon in Plentywood. In 1999 they purchased property in Sheridan County to fulfil Dories's dream to have a place to have horses. In 2002 they made Plentywood their permanent home. In 2004 Jerry returned to a driving job working for Quality Transit. He was devoted to his passengers and everyone felt safe when Jerry was at the wheel no matter what the road conditions. Jerry was an intensely passionate man who did everything full force, always paying meticulous attention the tiny details whether playing music, washing the car or bus, mowing the lawn, tending to their horses, boating, water skiing or following and debating politics. He loved teaching others about the things he loved.
Nothing was more important to Jerry than his wife Dorinda and his blended family. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Dorinda Paul, two children John Raymond Paul of Everett, Washington and Susan Ramos of Lopez Island, Washington, and was "Dad" to Dorie's kids, Rene Gisler of Spokane, Washington and Grant Gary of Billings, Montana, as well as Grandpa to Cheyetta Lynn Law, Jeremy James Ramos, Shonieann Cade, Amber, Jonathan, Christina, Corrina and Serenity Paul, Hannah and Tanner Paul, Michael and Zachary Gisler and Steven, Robert and Christopher Lucas, Halley Jackson and Samantha Rene Gary, and eight great-grandchildren with two more on the way. He is also survived by his in-laws Carol Person, Brett (Carly) Person and Myron and Jan Person as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Harry Paul (Vickie ) of Aberdeen Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Robert Christopher Paul. Today he is rejoicing with them in heaven.
