Description

A striking member of the Pea family, very often cultivated as a foraging crop or as green manure. Cattle benefit from eating Sainfoin as it reduces the nemotodes parasitism in the gut.

Flowers

The flowers are grouped in an elongated flower spike. The upper petal, the standard, has dark pink stripes.

Leaves

Pinnate row of leaflets on either side of the stem. 6-14 pairs of elliptical leaflets on either side of the stem.

Fruits Seeds

Pod: indented and spiky.
