1956 Golden Globe Winner Anita Ekberg Dies at 83

Actress Anita Ekberg passed away today at age 83. Born in Sweden, Ekberg arrived in Hollywood in 1951 after competing in the Miss Universe pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She didn’t win the competition but as a finalist was given a contract with Universal Studios.

During her acting career, Ekberg starred alongside dozens of acting legends including Dean Martin, Audrey Hepburn, and Frank Sinatra. She went on to win a Golden Globe in 1956 for most promising newcomer. Ekberg will forever be remembered for her iconic and glamorous role in Federico Fellini’s 1960 film, La Dolce Vita.
