The 30-year-old is currently a free agent despite receiving offers from multiple clubs, as he is concerned that he will not get what he is owed by Rubin.

For now, Song is training in his homeland of Cameroon as he bids to maintain his fitness.

Meanwhile FIFA are threatening Rubin with sanctions of both a financial and football nature. The club could even face expulsion from future European competitions.

The side were plunged into financial crisis last year, with Song one of a few players still waiting to be paid.

Rubin are owned by Tatar-American Investments and Finance company, whose president Radik Shaimiev is named as the 88th richest man in Russia.

The club made a name for themselves in the Champions League by reaching the group stages on three separate occasions, including one year in which they beat Barcelona.

They also reached the knockout stages of the Europa League and had previously made a number of high-profile signings, including Song, before financial troubles hit the club.
