Abstract
Abstract Of The Disclosure A toothpaste dispenser, disposable toothbrush, comprising: a toothpaste reservoir/handle, a cylindrical valve for controlling the flow of toothpaste and a hollow toothbrush head. The valve is movable within the tooth-brush head to allow the flow or stop the flow of tooth-paste from the reservoir to the bristles of the toothbrush through a hole provided in the base of the toothbrush head where the bristles are anchored. The valve is closed by pushing it to abut an end wall of the toothbrush head and then locking it in position. The valve can also be locked in the open position.
Description
~L2571~
This invention relates to a toothpaste dispenser, disposable toothbrush.
It is a general object of the present invention to provide a toothpaste dispenser, disposable toothbrush of convenient and simple construction and operation.
Summarv Of The Invention A toothpaste dispenser9 disposable toothbrush, comprising: a reservoir for toothpaste including an opening for expelling toothpaste held in the reservoir therefrom, the reservoir, at least in part, constructed of a compressible material, and the reservoir also acting as the handle of the toothpaste dispenser, disposable toothbrush; and a toothbrush head including a hollow shank with bristles thereon and an opening for expelling toothpaste held in the hollow shank to the bristles, the toothbrush head cooperating with the reservoir to receive toothpaste therefrom through a valve having open and closed positions determined by stops on the hollow shank; wherein the valve is a cylindrical valve movable within the hollow shank to an open position wherein toothpaste flowing -through the cylindrical valve from -the reservoir enters the hollow shank and is expelled through the opening to the bristles, and to a closed position wherein an end of the cyclindrical valve remote from the reservoir abuts an end-wall of the hollow shank remote from the reservoir.
, Brief Description Of The Drawings Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view at the toothbrush of this invention;
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 of an embodiment of the toothbrush of this invention having a ~r", ~,2s7~6~
handle of rectangular cross-section; and Figure 3 shows the toothbrush of Figure 2 in an assembled condition.
Detailed Description Of The Preferred Embodiments The toothpaste dispenser, disposable toothbrush of the present invention comprises a toothpaste reservoir and toothbrush handle 1 , a valve 10 and a toothbrush head 20, as shown in figures 1 and 2.
The reservoir 1 comprises a body portion 2 which may be of any desired shape, e.g. preferably cylindrical in the embodiment of figure 1 and rectangular in the embodiment of figure 2. Tapered portions 3 of the reservoir I serve to reduce the cross-section of the reservoir 1 to end portions 4 which join to the toothbrush head 20.
The resevoir 1 may be made from any suitable material, normally a plastic. The plastic, at least for body portion 2 of reservoir 1, must be sufficiently compressible to allow reservoir 1 to be compressed to expel toothpaste therefrom.
If desired, reservoir 1 may be reinforced to enhance its function as the handle of a toothbrush when reservoir 1 is not completely filled with tooth paste. In the cylindrical embodiment of figure 1 reinforcing bands are shown at 2a, and in the rectangular embodiment of figure 2 corner reinforcements are shown at 2b. The . . , reinforcements generally will also be made of plastic, but a less compressible plastic than that used for body portions 2.
Valve 10 is cylindrical irrespective of the shape of the reservoir 1 or the toothbrush head 20. Valve 10 may ~ Z57~6~
be made from any suitable material, normally a plastic.
The toothbrush head 20 comprises bristles 21, a hollow shank 22 and a hollow joining member 23. As can be seen in figures 1 and 2, the shape of the shank 22 and the joining member 23 correspond to the body 2 and end portion 4 of the reservoir 1.
The toothbrush head 20 may be made of commonly used plastics in the art.
Any suitable method may be used to join the reservoir 1 to the toothbrush head 20 as long as the freedom of movement of valve 10 is not limited. In the embodiment of figure 1, joining member 23 is constructed with threads to screw inside threaded end portion 4. Hole and pin arrangement 5 and 24, respectively, (one pair shown) serve to join the reservoir 1 and the toothbrush head 20 together in the embodiment of figure 2.
Normal plastic fabricating methods such as molding or extrusion may be used to manufacture parts 1, 10 and 20 and to assemble them. Conventional methods known in the art may also be used to fill reservoir 1 with toothpaste.
The operation of the toothpaste dispensing aspect of the invention is as follows. Valve 10 is pulled back towards reservoir 1 by lever 11 sliding along channel 25 of shank 22 and is then slotted into s~op 26 of shank 22. On compressing reservoir 1 too-thpaste is expelled through opening 12 of valve 10, passes along valve 10 and is expelled from the second opening 13 of valve 10 into the hollow shank 22 from where it is expelled through hole 27 of shank 22 to charge the bristles 21. Once sufficient ~ 2 57C~1 toothpaste has been charged on the bristles lever 11 is removed from stop 26, is moved forward towards the toothbrush head _ along channel 25 and is slotted into stop 28 of shank 22. In this position opening 13 of valve 10 abuts end wall 29 of shank 22. Accordingly, no more toothpaste can be expelled from reservoir 1.
It will be seen from the above description that in the closed position opening 13 of valve 10 most abut end wall 29 of shank 22. It is not necessary, although preferred, that opening 12 of valve 10 be at position 6(30) of the end portion 4 (joining member 23) of reservoir 1 when the valve is in the open position.
Once valve 10 is closed the toothbrush may be used and cleaned in normal manner and then stored for future use. Once all of the toothpaste from reservoir 1 is . . .
used the toothbrush is discarded.
The closed position of valve 10 may best be seen in figure 3.
When required, the toothpaste dispenser, disposable toothbrush may be equipped with a cover Eor ~ bristles 21, e.g. a pull-cover (not shown) which fits over - a part of reservoir 1.
The construction of the toothbrush is such that toothpaste does not leak, when under compression, from the various joints whether valve 10 is open or closed.
