The invention relates to a method for the production of paper, cardboard or other web or sheet-like materials with a coating of any shape and products manufactured therefrom. The surface of the coating can therefore be smooth and shiny or of a different nature.
It is known to apply coatings of mineral material to paper or cardboard in such a way that the coating material is slurried directly onto the paper or cardboard, and although using rollers, scrapers or the like. The coated paper or cardboard carrier is then passed through calender rolls or the like. Most of the product obtained in this way has a wrinkled and flawed surface. Furthermore, one has already proceeded in such a way that the paper or the cardboard is first coated directly with the mineral coating material and the coated one Surface next to a polished surface, e.g. B. the outer surface of a chrome-plated Drum, pressed and the coating is dried while it is in contact with the drum. The one won in this way The surface of the product corresponds to that of the drum.

od. dgl. mit einem geformten Überzug und danach hergestellte ProdukteThe application of the coating directly to the paper surface or cardboard web and the subsequent drying of the coating, however, cannot be carried out with the known methods at the operating speed of a paper or cardboard manufacturing machine. It is therefore not possible to produce the coating in a special part of a paper or board-making machine. In the method mentioned in the second place, the coating on the paper or cardboard web must also remain in contact with the heated drum until the coating is essentially dry and at least hardened to the extent that it is no longer in a plastic state. As a result of the application of the coating to the drum, the moisture from the coating must be evaporated through the back of the paper or paperboard web. This requires a drying drum with a large diameter, which can also only have a low speed of rotation. The drying of the coating in the system on the drum often results in irregular shrinkage or stretching of the paper or cardboard web. The reverse side is roughened by the escaping moisture. As a result of the necessary passage of moisture through the paper or cardboard web, no webs can be coated according to the known method that are not permeable to moisture
or the like with a molded coating and products made thereafter

The invention eliminates the disadvantages of the known methods outlined above.
A method is also already known in which a continuous tape is provided with an adhesive layer provided in the form of a thermoplastic material and the tape then a coating in the form of a prefabricated synthetic resin film is supplied, which is intimately connected to the tape by means of the adhesive.
It was previously not considered possible to use a paper or cardboard web in this way to provide a mineral coating. A mineral coating is there, especially if only does not have low strength, in contrast to a finished synthetic resin film on its own without a carrier durable. Its internal strength is so low that it crumbles very easily. It is therefore impossible considered peeling off such a layer from a surface on which it was formed.
The invention is based on the knowledge that this is possible under certain conditions. Additional glycerine have proven to be useful these basic components can be referred to. Excellent adhesion was found in smaller amounts of other additives, e.g. B. Adhesives on Agent for changing the p "value, uses a polyvinyl acetate base with a solids content will. of about 37%, consisting of polyvinyl acetate,
Such adhesives were also used in a ratio of 0.88 to 1.32 kg of solid used per 500 sheets. This ratio of 0.88 to 1.32 kg is very suitable however, the adhesive layer as such can consist of 3.19 to 16.12 grams of dry adhesive per square meter exist.
The glue should dry immediately after application and before joining with the mineral coating. When it comes to coating paper or cardboard, the drying takes place for the most part by itself, but it may also be necessary to act on the outside To use means such as warm air. This stage of work is necessary to keep the moisture in the adhesive layer, the surface of the mineral coating is not destroyed. The joining of the Coating layer with the material to be coated should be non-adhesive immediately before the adhesive will be done.
B. entsprechend den US A.Patentschriften 2 379 413 bzw. 2 705 223. It has also proven advantageous to use a hot melt product as the adhesive and to reactivate it by heat at the moment of assembly. The meltable adhesive can be applied either in the molten state or as a solution in a solvent or as a suspension in water. If the adhesive is applied in the form of a suspension in water, as is preferably done, it must be completely dried prior to reactivation, although drying and reactivation can occur almost simultaneously since heat is used for drying as well as reactivation . An example of such a suspension is a polyamide suspension, e.g. B. corresponding to US A Patents 2,379,413 or 2,705,223. Another example is vinylidene chloride and a plasticizer. This adhesive gives the paper, cardboard or the like a high degree of moisture and steam impermeability. The heat-meltable adhesives can contain a proportion of wax to aid in the impermeability to moisture or powdered aluminum, TiO 2 , clay or CaCO 3 in suspension to increase the opacity of the adhesive layer.
When transferring the coating from the drum or other support, it is important that that the layer is maintained in a substantially dry or non-plastic state. That that is, the coating must be at the time it is brought into contact with the adhesive layer will be essentially dry and, at least as far as the modeled side is concerned, remain dry. Consequently, the adhesive must be used both in terms of its amount and its water or solvent content be dimensioned so that it does not rewet the coating layer, that the Solvent enters the modeled area of the coating layer. If this modeled surface if the solvent in the adhesive were to rewet it, it would not loosen from the drum and become damaged. Proper adjustment can be made by using the in regulates the amount of water or solvent present and / or the amount of water or moisture present on the remaining amount of heat present in the coating layer at the time of transfer votes. So there can be a higher percentage of water or solvent, when the heat of the layer is approximately 93 ° C than when the layer is only heated to 71 ° C will.
The adhesive coating offers another advantage. The color and shine of the finished This is because the product can be improved by adding coloring agents to the adhesive. For example, satin white (a barium sulfate precipitate) or the like can be added to the adhesive during the coating layer can also contain dyes or other coloring agents. This is particular advantageous where coarse paper or other material of poor quality is to be coated, that doesn't have the gloss and smoothness of appearance that better papers do.
