Description

1. Technisches Anwendungsgebiet der Erfindung1. Technical field of application of the invention

The invention relates to the technical field of paper production, it concerns in particular the technical Ge offers the wet end additives (additives in the wet section) the papermaking entry (furnish).

2. Beschreibung des Standes der Technik2. Description of the prior art

In the manufacture of paper, an aqueous cellulo sesuspension or slurry to a sheet of paper (Paper sheet) shaped. The cellulose slurry is in the generally up to a consistency of less than 1% (Dry weight percent solids in the slurry) diluted. A slurry with a consi is often used less than 0.5% immediately before the fabric used on the paper machine. The finished sheet of paper However, (paper sheet) must have a water content of less than about 6% by weight. Therefore the drainage is at papermaking extremely important for efficiency and the cost of manufacturing.

The most cost-effective drainage process is that simple draining (sieve drainage). To more expensive ver driving that are used include the vacuum handler processing, pressing, felt washing and pressing as well drying. In practice, a combination of these Procedure applied to drainage or the arch (the sheet) Paper is made up to the desired water level just dried. Because the drainage (draining leave) both the first applied and the cheap represents the most dewatering process, is ver Improving the efficiency of screen drainage the What amount of water that must be removed by other methods  reduced and thus the overall efficiency of the Drainage improves and the cost of it is reduced wrestles.

Another aspect of paper making that's for us Degree of efficiency and the cost of production are extremely important is the retention of the components of the substance input (of the paper raw materials), on and within the nonwoven, that is formed during papermaking. The pa pier manufacturing entry generally contains particles, their size in the range of 2 to 3 mm cellulo fibers up to fillers with a size of a few a few µm and up to colloids. Within this Cellulose fine parts, mineral Fillers (which are used to increase the opacity To improve whiteness and other paper properties) and other small particles that are generally egg-free nes or more retention aids to a signifi edges share the voids (pores) between the cellulos fibers in the one formed during papermaking Nonwoven fabric would happen.

A method to improve Cellu retention loose fines, mineral fillers and other a support components on the nonwoven fabric is the use of egg nes coagulant / flocculant system that before is added to the headbox of the paper machine. In egg Such a system first becomes a coagulant, for example with a synthetic cationic polymer a low molecular weight or a cationic mo differentiated starch to the stock (the paper raw materials) added, the coagulant generally the on the particles in the entry, especially on the Cel lulose fine parts and the mineral fillers, existing which reduces negative surface charges and thereby agglomeration of these particles causes what the Then a flocculant is added. This floc  The agent is generally an anionic, cationi cal or non-ionic synthetic polymer with a high molecular weight that the particles and / or Ag glomerates through the formation of bridges between the waiters surfaces connecting with each other, resulting from the particles large agglomerates arise. The presence of this great Agglomerates in the entry when the Pa pierbogens (paper sheet) is formed, increases the reten tion of the particles in the nonwoven. The agglomerates who which is filtered out of the water and on the nonwoven train deposited, of which the non-agglomerated part Chen such a paper nonwoven web on a large scale would happen.

Although a flocculated agglomerate generally affects the Sieve drainage (draining) of the nonwoven to the extent it would occur if the entry would be mushy or a lot of mushy measure material would not be affected if these flakes are filtered through the nonwoven web whose pores up to are reduced to a certain extent, the Efficiency of screen drainage reduced. The retention is therefore increased, but at the same time according to the occurrence of an adverse effect on the seventh watering.

Another system that is used to achieve an improved Combination of retention and drainage applied is in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,753,710 and 4,913,775 (Langeley et al.), Both of which are referred to here is taken. This procedure is, briefly together the aqueous cellulose papermaking suspensions first a linear cationic polymer with a high molecular weight added, what the addition of bentonite after shearing. The shearing will generally in one or more stages of the paper manufacturing process carried out and thereby the  large flakes caused by the polymer with the high mole Formular weight are formed, crushed into micro flakes (disassembled) and a further agglomeration is then achieved by adding the bentonite particles.

Another system uses a combination of katio strength and subsequent addition of colloidal Silicon dioxide applied to the amount of on the fleece material retained by the web by Ver drive charge neutralization and adsorption of small other agglomerates. This system is described in U.S. Patent No. 4,388,150. Another variant of this sy stems is in U.S. Patent Nos. 4,643,801 and 4,750,974 , both of which are referred to here those in addition to using a cationic starch and colloidal silica with or without starch an anionic polymer with a high molecular weight is used.

In U.S. Patent No. 4,795,531 the use of a Retention and Drainage Aid Program described, which consists of a cationic polymer Low molecular weight coagulant, colloidal silica sol and a polymer floc high molecular weight agent that is anio nisch or cationically charged.

There have also been other systems for improvement sieve drainage and retention suggested. To the Systems include the use of a single katio African polymer with a high molecular weight like it exemplified in South African Patent No. 2,389 / 90 that of U.S. Patent Application No. 397,294 (filed on August 23, 1989). In the U.S. Pa tent No. 5 098 520 becomes a sieve dewatering and reten tion program, in which a cellulose Papermaking slurry containing a mineral fill  contains fabric, with a cationic (meth) acrylamide Po is treated with a high molecular weight, be before at least one shear step, on which the addition of an anionic polymer with a low molecular weight is followed by at least one shear stage after the addition of the cationic polymer.

Drainage in general and especially the seventh watering (drainage by draining, drainage) is believed to improve when the pores of the Nonwoven paper web are less clogged, and it is put on taken that the retention by adsorption compared for retention by filtration this pore clogging ver diminishes.

Better retention of fines and fillers allows the reduction for a given paper quality of the cellulose fiber content of this paper. Since pulping with a lower quality used to make the paper reducing retention costs is the retention aspect in papermaking the more important because of the content on fine parts of these pulps with lower quality in is generally higher than that of pulps with one higher quality.

Through better retention of the fine particles, fillers and other slurry components will increase the amount these substances, which ver on the white water (white water) lornen, reduced and thus the amount of Ma material waste, the cost of waste treatment and the waste disposal and the resulting partial environmental effects reduced.

Another important characteristic of a given Pa The manufacturing process is the formation of the structure ten sheet of paper. The formation will be agrees with the cloudiness (change in light transmission  sion) of a sheet of paper and a strong cloudiness a sign of bad formation. If the Re tention increases to a high value, for example a retention value of 80 or 90%, the formats go ons parameters generally abruptly return from a good one Formation to a bad formation. At least theories It is assumed that when the retenti Mechanisms of a given papermaking process change from filtration to adsorption push, the adverse effect on the formation when high retention values are achieved, decreases and good ones Combination of high retention and good formation in U.S. Patent No. 4,913,775 using bentonite attributed to.

In general, it is desirable to measure the amount of material which in a paper making process for a given A purpose is used to decrease without the specified aspired to worsen earnings. Such addie Reducing reductions can result in both material costs savings as well as advantages in relation to the handle bring with it exercise and processing.

It is also desirable to use additives which can be fed to the paper machine without excessive problems occur. Additives easily dissolve or disperse in water, minimize the cost and the energy required to get it feed the paper machine, and they give a verver more casual loading uniformity than additives (Additives) that are not easily dissolved or dispersed the.

Other advantages of the present Invention emerge from the following description.

Beschreibung bevorzugter Ausführungsformen der ErfindungDescription of preferred embodiments of the invention

A method to improve the retention of mineral Fillers and cellulose fibers on a cellulose fiber The sheet comprises several stages. One level serves the production of a cellulose pulp (pulp) -auf slurry. The pulp slurry then becomes one effective amount of a copolymer flocculant added. The copolymer flocculant is preferably a katio African acrylamide / diallyldimethylammonium chloride copolymer with high molecular weight. The copolymer flocculant preferably contains about 20 to about 60 mole% Diallyldimethylammonium chloride mer units. The copoly mer contains in particular about 30 to about 40 mol% Diallyldimethylammonium chloride mer units.

After shearing the cationic copolymer flocculation medium containing cellulose pulp slurry the cellulose pulp slurry an effective amount water-soluble anionic flocculant with a added high molecular weight. The anionic Flocculant is preferably used within one stage from 0.1 to 0.8 m, preferably from 0.3 to 0.5 m, from the addition point of the cationic high Mo copolymer molecular weight added. Then the cellulose pulp pen slurry form a cellulose fiber sheet det of both the cationic copolymer flocculant and also contains the anionic flocculant.

In another embodiment of the invention, the Sequence of each addition of cationic and anionic flocculant are reversed, the Add anionic flocculant first and then of cationic flocculant is particularly preferred.

The use of polymers of different types for Purposes of improving the drainage and retening behavior in paper production processes is general my known. Such polymers are in the range of "natural polymers" like starches up to synthetic ones Various types of polyelectrolytes. Examples such polyelectrolytes include anionic polymers, cationic polymers and amphoteric polymers. For examples such polymers also include non-ionic polymers, e.g. B. the non-ionic, but polar polyacrylamides. These polymers are at the concentrations used are generally water-soluble.

In a conventional retention aid system, which as "Dual polymer system" is called a kationi Low molecular weight polymer coagulant weight used, which is followed by the addition of an anionic High molecular weight polymer flocculant closes.

The functional terms "coagulant" and "Flocculants" are of course based on the effect that has a polymer on top of the cellulose slurry particles. A "coagulant" generally neutralizes one Surface charge on a particle, with a cationi coagulant has a negative surface charge neutralized on a particle. A flocculant is found in places on a large number of such particles achieving a bridging effect. What the Structural properties that a polymer coagulates distinguish ons from a polymer flocculant, so that a coagulant is a polymer with a is low molecular weight while a floc a polymer with a high molecular weight is. A coagulant must also be cationic to new the negative surface charges of the particles  tralize. A flocculant is generally, ever but not necessarily, anionic.

Cationic polymer flocculant with a high mole Specular weight was previously used in the paper industry Development process as a substitute for the anionic floc high molecular weight agent of the dual polymer Retention and Sieve Drainage Aid System used. These cationic flocculants were previously however, polymers with a relatively low Charge density, the mole percentages of cationic mer Units of about 10% and charge seals in the Of the order of 1.0 or 1.2 equivalents of cationic Nitrogen per kg dry polymer or less exhibited. In contrast to the cationic coagulations They have so far been used with low molecular weights used together with those that are usually high La have dense densities, e.g. B. Charge densities from about 4 to about 8 equivalents of cationic nitrogen per kg of troc kenem polymer.

The cationic polymer flocculant with a (Relatively) high charge density and a high molecular weight important that according to the invention as a component of the two- Component Retention and Sieve Drainage Aids Systems used usually contain 2.5 to 60 mol% or less of cationic Mer units. Preferential they contain 20 to 60 mol% of cationic Mer-Ein units. Most preferably contains the invention cationic high molecular weight polymer 30 to 50 Mol% especially 40 to 50 mol%, cationic mer units.

The cationic flocculants used according to the invention tel generally have charge densities of about 2 to about 4 equivalents of cationic nitrogen per kg of dry Polymer on and preferably they have a charge density from about 2.5 to about 3.4 equivalents of cationic stick  fabric per kg dry polymer. A ver according to the invention reversible particularly preferred polymer has a La density of about 2.8 equivalents of cationic stick fabric per kg dry polymer. This charge density is much lower than that of the cationic koagu state of the art agents which replace them, however, it is generally higher than the charge densities of the cationic flocculant, already known as Floc in two-component coagulation agents tel / flocculant programs can be used.

The cationic polymer floc used according to the invention agents differ from the cationic Koagu lationsmittel materials that they replace, in that they have significantly higher molecular weights. During that Molecular weight of a typical cationic coagulum ons means in the range of several 1000 to 200 000 may lie, the molecular weight of the Invention usable cationic polymers in the range of about 1,000,000 to about 20,000,000 or higher. Although the molecular weight of the poly used according to the invention not for the cationic polymer flocculants can be specified, they have according to the invention usable polymers reduced specific viscosities (Intrinsic viscosities) in the range of 4 to 22 or higher compared to cationic coagulants, the generally reduced specific viscosities (Intrinsic viscosities) less than 1.

In the cationic copoly used in the invention mer flocculant is a copolymer of an uncharged monomer selected from the group Acrylamide, methacrylamide, the vinyl ester, such as. Preferably, as cationic copolymer flocculant uses a copo lymer from the group of (meth) acrylamide / dimethylamino ethyl (meth) acrylate, dimethylamino (meth) acrylate methylchlo rid quat., dimethylaminoethyl (meth) acrylate benzyl chloride quat., [3- (meth) acryloylaminopropyl] trimethylammonium chloride, N- [3- (dimethylamino) propyl] (meth) acrylamide or Diallyl-dimethylammonium chloride copolymers.

B. The most preferably contain those which can be used according to the invention cationic polymer flocculant 40 to 50 mol% Diallyldimethylammonium chloride. Although acrylamide is a be preferred comonomer in the preparation of these polymers is because it is commercially available and because of its non-ionic in character, other non-ionic cal monomers are used as long as the resulting Polymer remains water-soluble and no noticeable anioni contains charge. Examples of other non-ioni cal monomers together with diallyl dimethylammonium chloride can be polymerized, belongs ren methacrylamide and vinyl esters, e.g. B. methyl methacrylate.

Unter dem hier verwendeten Ausdruck "(Meth)Acryl . . . " bzw. " . . . (meth)acryl . . . Under the expression "(meth) acrylic ..." or "... (meth) acryl..." are both the corresponding acrylic acid compounds as well as the corresponding methacrylic to understand acid compounds.

Ein besonders be vorzugtes Acrylamid/Diallyldimethylammoniumchlorid-Copoly mer hat eine reduzierte spezifische Viskosität (Intrinsic- Viskosität) von etwa 5.The molecular weight of those used in the invention cationic flocculant materials can vary widely ieren. The cationic floc that can be used according to the invention Agent materials have molecular weights of min at most 1,000,000. The synthesis of these types of polymers is generally known such as in U.S. Patent No. 4,077,930 (Limm et al.) or in U.S. Patent No. 3,624,019 (Anderson et al.) described, to which express reference is made here becomes. The copolymer flocculation used in the invention medium, especially the diallyldimethylammonium chloride Copolymer flocculants can also be in the form of a ver thin aqueous solution, although this Methods are not preferred.

The anionic polymer flocculants are water soluble che vinyl polymers containing at least 5 mole% mer units with an anionic charge, preferably 5 to 95 mol% anionic mer units and most preferably 20 to Contain 80 mole% anionic mer units. The anionic polymers have a degree of substitution of at least 0.01, preferably a degree of substitution of at least 0.05 and most preferably a substi degree of at least 0.10 to 0.50. In a similar way have acrylamide / acrylic acid copolymers with a monomer molver ratios of 50:50 an anionic degree of substitution of 0.5.

The test procedure described below is a laboratory Process that simulates a paper machine and data regarding retention, drainage and drainage delivers other impact parameters. The one with these Data obtained from test procedures are comparable to that those in a commercial paper making process that is simulated can be obtained.

It becomes a 500 ml sample of a standard paper stock (Cellulose slurry) used. Any setting lungs that are required in terms of consistency of the substance and the pH are carried out before through treatment and / or before mixing begins. A Britt test device manufactured by PRM Incorporated, Syracuse, New York, is available as a mixing container used to achieve a standard level of shear. These Device consists of a chamber with a capacity of about 1 l and is with a variable Ge engine equipped with a 5.1 cm (2 inch) Three-blade propeller drives. The standard fabric sample is placed in the Britt container first and then the treatment agent added. The substance / treatment medium combination is then with the desired Ge speed and mixed for the desired amount of time, then the filtrate is collected for 10 s.

Then the transmission (or turbidity) of the filtrate in the Comparison to a blank sample determined. The increase in Transmission (decrease in turbidity) gives an increase in Retention of fine parts, mineral fillers and fibers on the fleece again. The sieve residue is from the Britt container removed and placed in a sieve drain Test device introduced, which consists of a Büchner Funnel that is placed on a graduated 250 ml cylinder sets is. A coarse filter paper is placed on the Büchner Funnel placed and a vacuum of 0.1 MPa (30  inches Hg). 250 ml sieve residue is on the Poured filter paper and the time until 200 ml of water ent removed, is used as drainage time draws. The resulting molded fleece is put together with the coarse filter is removed and weighed to the To determine consistency in percent. The consistency in Pro Cent is an indication of the solids content in percent in the fleece formed and it is based on the weight of the fleece formed plus the filter paper minus the weight of the known substance-solids and the Filter paper. This result provides the weight of the Water in the formed fleece from which the consi easily stenz in percent (or the solids content in percent) can be expected. Which in all cases for this Standard methods used are in the after following Table I specified.
