Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an ink pen with a writing tip, with a tank for the liquid ink and with means for guiding the ink from the tank to the writing tip.
Such ink pens are known in particular as fountain pens, but also as so-called roller balls or fiber pens.
With these ink pens, the ink is transported from the tank to the nib by capillary action according to one of two principles. If the tank gradually empties in this way, a negative pressure gradually develops in the tank, which would prevent further ink from reaching the writing tip. In order to avoid this, the negative pressure must be eliminated by supplying air from the outside.
This happens because there is a small opening in the lower end (in writing) of the tank, in which small air bubbles from a certain negative pressure penetrate the tank, which then rise in the ink.
Es bleiben aber folgende.Nachteile bestehen. However, the following disadvantages remain. Once the whole arrangement is extremely sensitive to temperature and pressure 'sensitive. Namely, the volume of air in the tank increases due to a temperature increase or a decrease in external pressure, so the ink is pushed by the pressure to the writing tip, where their leakage apillarspeicher by complex K or the like must be prevented. In addition, ink could leak through the small opening where the air bubbles are supposed to enter.
The disadvantage of these tampon stores, however, is that they cannot be completely emptied. Increases after some namely the letter T intenmenge and thus the extent to which the porous pad memory is moistened, ab, so the ink flow diminishes, that is, the print quality decreases. With the same volume, the tampon storage has the disadvantage over the conventional tank that it has to be refilled or replaced more frequently. In addition, a higher write speed can be with a T intenschreiber with tank achieve because there is the tampon Schreiber difficulties of ink flow at high write speeds, since the ink from the more humid regions of the tampon memory passes slowly to the regions by the rapid writing partially dried are. and with increasing emptying of the tampon, the counteracting the ink flow
Kapillarkräfte sich erhöhen.Capillary forces increase.
So although the tank has many advantages, it has the disadvantages mentioned above. Such is an ink very sensitive to temperature, and space must be provided for compensation rooms and the like, for example in the form of capillary stores. In addition, the internal pressure in the tank will depend on the fill level, since with different fill levels, different hydrostatic pressures at the opening at which the air is to enter modifies the entry of air bubbles.
The object of the invention is to provide an ink recorder of the type mentioned, which has the advantages of the tank memory, but it has a temperature variations and pressure variations and the F üll- was independent ink.
The solution according to the invention is that the tank is closed off by an open-pored porous wall at least on the side facing away from the writing tip.
Such open-pore porous walls are known in principle as so-called wet membranes in medicine, electrochemistry, biology and similar fields. It is to the merit of the invention to have recognized that such porous walls can surprisingly eliminate the disadvantages that the known ink pen with a tank has. In this respect, the advantages of a tampon reservoir are essentially achieved without the disadvantages that the ink flow depends on the fill level of the reservoir.
The effect of the porous wall is as follows. The wall is soaked in ink. In order for this to be the case all the time, the porous wall is expediently connected to the lower region of the tank (in the writing position) via appropriate capillary lines, for example also a porous wall, in which ink is normally always present located. Expediently, however, the side walls also consist of open-pored, porous wall material, so that the upper part is always kept moistened via these side walls.
If a vacuum now gradually occurs because ink flows away when writing, small air bubbles bubble through the pores of the porous wall, which are filled with ink, until pressure equalization is achieved or until the pressure difference becomes so small that no air bubbles can pass through. The pressure difference at which bubbles no longer pass through is, of course, independent of the fill level, since unlike the conventional ink pen with a tank, the pressure at the openings at which air bubbles enter does not depend on the hydrostatic pressure of the ink in the tank.
On the other hand, if there is an overpressure in the tank, for example as a result of an increase in temperature or a decrease in pressure in the surroundings, air bubbles can conversely get out of the tank through the porous wall into the surroundings, so that the internal excess pressure is reduced. In contrast to the conventional ink pen with a tank, the ink is not pressed out of the tank.
- an even ink flow largely independent of the fill level as a result of an air bubble valve function independent of the fill level,
- a significantly increased ink absorption capacity as a consequence of the temperature insensitivity,
- takes up less space than the normal ink tank used up to now,
- with respect to the tampon memory the advantage of a sufficiently rapid T intenangabe even at high write speeds that may be higher than 9 m / min.
The tank according to the invention with an open-pore porous wall can be used with all ink writing devices, both with roller balls, fiber pens and fountain pens.
- a = Oberflächenspannung der Flüssigkeit
- 0 = Benetzungswinkel der Flüssigkeit im Membranmaterial
- d = mittlerer Porendurchmesser
- F = Formfaktor
- P = bubble point pressure or bubble point
- a = surface tension of the liquid
- 0 = wetting angle of the liquid in the membrane material
- d = average pore diameter
- F = form factor
The tank is advantageously delimited on all sides by open-pore porous wall material, since in this way the upper part in the writing position always remains well wetted with ink. To prevent the tank from drying out, the tank is expediently surrounded in the lower region and on the side walls with an impermeable material. The impermeable material of the side walls and - apart from the means for directing the ink to the writing tip - the part facing the writing tip are expediently surrounded by an impermeable material. This impermeable material can be shrunk plastic, for example.
The porous wall material can also consist of plastic. Conveniently, however, it can also consist of glass, or of sintered metals or other materials.
The porous wall material advantageously has an average pore diameter of 10 to 100 μm, preferably approximately 10 to 50 μm. It is very particularly advantageous if the porous wall material has an average pore diameter of approximately 25 μm.
Tinte vollsaugt. The foregoing indicated that the porous wall is soaked with ink. This can be achieved by appropriate selection of the wall material. In a particularly advantageous embodiment, the porous wall material has been hydrophilized, that is to say has been subjected to such an additional treatment that the wall material is particularly hydrophilic, that is to say it attracts water and soaks up particularly well with water or ink.
In another advantageous embodiment, on the other hand, the material is treated in such a way that the porous wall material is rendered hydrophobic, that is to say water or ink repels. In this case, the porous wall material repels the ink liquid, which can no longer penetrate the wall material. On the other hand, an ink film forms on the inside of the hydrophobic wall, which seals off the air space inside the tank against the outside air.
If the tank is now partly written empty, a certain negative pressure is created in the air space so that the ink cannot leak. However, if this negative pressure exceeds a certain value, the ink film on the porous, hydrophobized wall material tears open, so that an at least partial pressure equalization can take place. Then this liquid film closes again. The mode of action is therefore similar to the bubbles that bubble through the pores of the hydrophilic or hydrophilized porous wall filled with ink liquid.
However, it can also happen that the wall material is selected so that it completely repels the ink, so that here no ink film wets the hydrophobized wall on the inside of the tank. In such cases, ink would leak out of a normal fountain pen.
If, however, the ink is led out of the tank with a wick that completely closes the flow opening to the writing tip, the ink cannot leak, although there is no negative pressure in the tank.
If the wall surface of the porous wall is too large, there could be a risk that too much ink will evaporate through the corresponding openings and the ink will therefore dry out too quickly. These wall areas are therefore normally not made too large, or porous wall areas are at least partially closed off by an impermeable layer.
However, in a further advantageous embodiment, this additional cover can in turn be formed by a porous wall if it is provided that at least some of the walls of the tank are formed by a hydrophilized porous wall material which is covered on the outside by a hydrophobic porous wall.
