Specification (if-Letters Patent. Application filed June 10,1912. Serial No. 702,758.
Patented Nov. 26, 1912.
a new and improved tooth-brush provided.
with a removable bristle holder to permit of replacing the same when the bristles are worn out and thus allow the use of a single expensive brush handle with a number of bristle holders for a long period.
For the purpose mentioned, use-is madeof a handle having a seat for the reception of a bristle holder, and means for removably securing the said bristle holder on the said seat.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying draw.- ings forming a partof this specification, in which similar characters of reference dicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tooth-brush; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same and showing more particularly the insertion of a bristle holder onto its seat; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the cover and locking plate; Fig. 5 is a similar view of the bristle holder; and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a pa er carrier for temporary use when placiflg a bristle holder in position on the brush.
The handle A of the tooth-brush is provided at its forward end with an integral loop B having at its inner wall an annular seat or rabbet C on which is adapted to be seated the back D of a bristle holder having bristles E set in the usual manner: in the back D. The outer end of the loop B is provided with an overhang F under which fits the forward end of a covering and looking plate Gr fitting into the opening of the loop B at the top thereof, as plainly indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. The rear end of the covering and locking plate G is provided with a rearwardly-extending tongue G fitting into a recess A formed in the top of the handle A'adjacent the loop B, and the tongue G is adapted to be engaged by a ring H slidably held on the handle A to clamp the tongue Gr in position in the recess A. In order to hold the ring H against accidental displacement on the tongue G the latter is provided at the top with a recess G 'into which the upper portion of the ring H'fits. By reference to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the covering and'locking plate G- overlies the back D of the bristle-holder,
and as the said plate G is held in position at its forward end by the overhang F and at its rear end by the ring H it is evident that the bristle holder is securely held in position on its seat C to permit the use of the tooth-brush for cleaning purposes in the usual manner. 7
In case the bristles E are worn out, the operator slips the ring H rearwardly on the handle A out of engagement with the tongue G to permit lifting the covering plate G out of the loop B, thus unlocking the bristle holder, which can now be pushed out of the loop B and replaced by a new bristle holder. When this has been done the covering plate G is replaced in the loop the bristle holder can be conveniently and easily inserted in the loop B.
. It is understood that after the back D is seated on the seat or rabbet C the piece of paper I is thrown away.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A. brush, comprising a handle having an integral loop provided with an annular seat and with an overhang at the outer end, a bristle holder having a back carrying bristles and seated on the said seat, a covering and locking plate fitting into the opening of the said loop and overlying the said back and which is entirely separable from the loop and bristleholder, the outer end of In testimony whereof I have signed my the plate extending under the said overhang name to this specification in the presence of and the inner end of the said plate terminattwo subscribing witnesses.
ing in a tongue, and a ring slid'able on the ABRAHAM L. HOLTZMAN. 5 handle and adapted to engage the said Witnesses:
tongue and clamp the same against the Trmo. G. Hos'mn, handle. PHILIP D. RoLLHAUs.
