To all whom it may concern:

'Be it known that I, PANEL CARL FUNOKE, a subject of the Gerrnan Emperor, residing at. Wiesbaden, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Tooth-Brush and Prophylactic Container; and I do hereby declare the'following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same. My invention relates to a combined tooth brush and prophylactic container and has for its object first always to keep the bristles of the brush immersed when put into the container, without respect to the position given to the latter, and second, to provide the prophylactic container with a cup or tumbler. d

With these objects in View my inventionconsists in an especial construction of the container and its cover and in an enlarged handle of the brush adapted to seal the mouth ofthe said container.

My invention is illustrated in panying drawing, in which:

The container 1, which may consist of a glass bottle of suitable size, isprovided with a shoulder 2, its reduced upperend 3 having an enlarged opening 4 to allow a tooth brush of common size to be put into the bottle.. The cover of the same is formed by a cup' or tumbler, 5, made of metal, glass or the like material, as will be suitable; the

' said cup is adaptedto abut against the shoulder 2 with its upper edge 14, and as its inner diameter corresponds to the outer diametar-off the reduced end 3 of the container 1 i l it tightly closes the latter; It may be suitable to: make the outer diameter of the cup ,5 as large as the outer diameter of the lower endofthe receptacle or container 1 so -that the outer surfaces of the cup and the bottle flush with one another asshown in Fig. 1.

The tooth brush 6which is provided with bristles 7 on its one end, hereinafter called the lower end and with avhandle 9 on its has an enlargement 10 which is adapted to engage the opening 4 of the bottle or container l; The enlargement 10, having preferably a conical shape to fit the sloping mouth or opening of the bottle, is provided withan annular groove 11 adapted to be engaged by a ring 13 of rubber or the like material. By means of the ring 13 any leakage between the enlargement 10 and the bottle is done away.

The prophylactic container is filled up with alcohol of 60-80 per cent. or with a similar liquid or dry prophylactic, or concentrated dentifrice in which the brush is immersed to keep the same sterilized and to kill the germs. To keep the brush 6 in its proper place in which it seals the mouth of the bottle 1, the cup' 5 is fitted to the upper end 3 of the same whereby the inner surface of the bottom 15 of the cup 5 comes in engagement with the upper end of the handle 9 of the brush 6 which thereby with its enlargement 10 is pressed into'the sloping mouth 4 of the bottle. The latter, therefore, is sealed in any position given.

1 In using my combined tooth brush and prophylactic container the cup shaped cover 5 is removed and partly filled with water to which any liquid or dry dentifrice is added. Then the tooth brush is drawn out from the ized condition. As, furthermore, always the same cup or tumbler 5 is used together with the tooth brush a clean method for avoiding infection is attained.
