IMPROVEMENT lN COMPOUNDS FOR DRESSING AND COLORING THE HAIR.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
1, JOHN N. FALLIS, of Newport, in the county of Campbell and State of Kentucky, have invented a new andimproved Compound for Dressing and Coloring the Hair, of which .the following is a specification.
Nat-Me and Objects of ,the Invention.
The subject of my invention is a compound which may be applied with as much ease and convenience as an ordinary dressing, and when so applied will not only render the hair or whiskers exceedingly soft and glossy, but will immediately impart thereto a rich black or brown, whatever may have been the previous color. This result is eflected without any injury to the hair.
General Description.
My compound consists of the following ingredients, in about the proportions named:
Castor oil, one ounce. Alcohol, six drachms.
Nitrate of silver, one drachrn. Spirits of ammonia, onedrachrn.
vOil of hergainot, one drachln, (or other suitable perfume.) i
The oil and alcohol are mixed in the usual way. The nitrate of silver is dissolved in the ammonia, and
' these two solutions are then mixed together. The
bergamot is added'to disguise the smell of the an monia and of the oil, and to give to the preparation a pleasant odor.
I do not confine myself to this particular perfume, but propose to use anyother as a substitute therefor.
Mode of Application.
The compound being shaken before pouring it from the bottle, a small quantity of it is placed in any shallow vessel in which it may be convenient to dip the ends of the teethof a dressing-comb.
A small quantity of the prcparatiolhbeing thus taken on the teeth of the comb, the latter is then passed through'the hair or whiskers, and the desired effect will be immediately apparent.
