Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov, 224, Mill-t;
a rise-um filed January 17, isle; Serial no. smear.
To all whom it-mag concern Be it known that I, FRANK Scnnrimr, a citizen ofthe United States of America, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Rio land and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and. useful improvements in .Itountain brushes and pertains particularly to shaving brushes.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide improved means of simple, efiicient and economical structure for positively feeding paste, powder, cream, soap, or'any de sired fluid to the brush bristles.
Another object of my invention is to pro vide a feeding mechanism that can be oper ated to convey the material in the magazine to the brush bristles and restored to its normal position, preparatory to the use of :the
brush, thereby maintaining the compactness of the brush and its feeding mechanism which adds to the convenience and comfort ofthe user.
Another object of my invention is to con struct a magazine of two parts having a plunger carrying a washer slidably fitted therein, and-further to provide a keeper for the plunger and washer when the parts are disconnected which will prevent the mutilation of the washer and maintain said washer centrally of the bore of the other part of the magazine so that the parts can be readily connected or threadedly engaged without interference from the. washer.
A further object is to provide a valve mechanism having a stem with a valve formedon one end to-permit or prevent the flow or discharge of the material from the magazine to the bristles of the brush; said stein, also,,being connected to and adapted to operate the plunger within the magazine.
A furtherobject of my invention is to provide means for operating the feeding and valve mechanism of a fountain brush, which means can be forced to, stopped, and operated at the end of the chamber of the megazine, thereby substantially concealing said means prior to the use of the brush.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side clevation, in section, of the invention showing the feeding mechanism-in contact with the cream or other material in the magazine and the valve in openlposition. Fig. 2 1s a side elevation partly broken away and in secand its accessories.
tion showing the feeding rnieehani'em out contact withthecreem or other material in the magazine and the valve in closed position. 3 is a side elevation ofmy. inucn tron showing a sarutary casing attached thereto with. a part of the easln brokena washer 3 is fitted. ,flhis washer is provided with an upstanding annular flange a which is adapted. to fit closely to the stem 5, which is inserted in a suitable aperture formedin the center of the washer and dcpressed portion 2. A screw threaded pore then 6 is formed on the stem and is adapted to engage with the threaded aperture formed in the center of the plunger 7' Yhcnthe stem 5 is turned the valve seat 8 is closed or opened by the valve 9 which is formed on the end of the stem 5. The 11 per portion of the plunger '7 is reduced to cm a shoulder and is adapted to fit within the inner periphery of the cupped shaped lower end of the cap 11. The cap and plunger are fastened togetherthrough the medium of screws 12 or any other well known fastening means An outwardly extending annular flange 13 is formed on the cupped shaped member 10 of the cap. The plunger is provided with a washer 14. which surrounds the outer periphery thereof. The washer is, also, provided with an inwardly extend ing flange 15 which is interposed between the outwardly extending-flange 13fandthe shoulder 15 of the reduced portion of the plunger, thereby holding said ;washer in place.
The upper part 16 of the magazine is threadedly connected to the lower part 1 and is provided with an inwardly extending flange 17 which forms a stop "for the plum r Part 16 also provi es a keeper for the plunger and the leather washer, to maintain the leather washer in pl ace and keep it from bein mutilated when it is desired to remove the owcr part 1 for the purpose of filling cream or the like therein or connect said parts after filling the part 1.. A holder 18 is fitted to the outer periphery of the cupped shaped portion 10 of the cap 11 and serves as a means of holding the bristles 19 inplace A sanitary casing 20 is provided and. is adapted to partially mechanism up until stopped by the flange 1? and the seein'is lurned to the right, closing 'he valve s 8 through 'lnhe lhe ,;We 9 a formed oi the 1" ac es easily disconnected, "she para, l5 retainin 2% the plunger and llDS accessories and part nan eheu he lulled, vvitn creamer lilre.
