To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EARL HIMMEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iowa Falls, in the county of Hardin and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brushes, of which do following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tooth brushes and more particularly to an attachment adapted to he applied to the ordinary tooth brush for assisting in cleaning and polishing the teeth and for removing the tartar and sediment therefrom.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a tooth brush of the above character which will possess advantages in points of etiiciency and durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.

ZVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists'in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a tooth brush constructed in accordance with my in vention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the handle having an elongated head 2 formed at one end thereof. Secured in any well known manner to one face of the head 2 are the bristles 3. The back of the head 2 is provided with a longitudinal groove having the undercut side walls t-llidably mounted in the groove l is an elongated rubber body member 6 which is prori hal with the outwardly tapering side edges 7 which are adapted to be fitted into the undercut side walls of the groove el. The outer end of the groove 4 is closed as shown at 8 and the inner end thereof tapers out upon the handle, as shown at 9, so that the member 6 can be readily slid into position, it being understood that the frictional enga gement between the side edges of the body and the side walls at is sufficient to hold the member in place.

Formed integral with the outer face of the rubber member 6 and projecting outwardly therefrom are a plurality of resilient protrusions 10, said protrusions being arranged in spaced relation as shown, It Will be apparent from the accompanying drawso ings that the body 6 is slightly curved to conform to the curvature of the teeth. While I have described the frictional engagement of the member 6 in the groove 4: as suliicientto hold the same in place, it will he understood that should the same be come loosened it may be secured by glue or other suitable means.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it 79 will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable brush attachment which is particularly adapted for cleaning and polishing the teeth and for removing the tartar and sediment therefrom. It Will also be apparent that the device is extremely simple in construction and at the same time is inexpensive of manufacture.

While I have. -shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be so obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carryin my invention into practice without sacri Icing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claim.

lVhatI claim is As a new article of manufacture, a tooth brush including an elongated head, the back of such head being disposed on a downwardly directed curve, and being provided with an elongated groove closed at its outer end, and a body of yielding material positioned within the groove, such body conforming to the longitudinal curvature of the back, the lower marginal portion of the longitudinal sides of the body being tapered outwardly to interlock with correspondingly formed sides of the groove.
