TOOTH-BRUSH HOLDER Specification of Letters Patent.i
Patented May 11, 1915.
Application: lodtobel" 14, 191k 8er-la) No. 886,598..
T0 all whom 'it-may concern-1 Be it, known that I .WALTEnMmLEm a citizen of the United gtates, and a. resident of Beaver Falls, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Tooth- Brush Holders, of which the following. is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being `had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this speciiicatiom, 1n which- Figure 1 is a front view of one. form of my improved tooth brush holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through Fig. 1'.. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the lineII'I--III of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a View similar to Fig. 2 showing a modified form of holder; and
Fig. 5\is a front view of' a portion of a holder of another form.-
This invention relatesto an improvement in sanitary tooth brush holders,.and isdesigned to provide a cheapandreiicient de vice of this character whiclrisv nea-tin. ap- -pearance and is arranged tamovethetooth brush upwardly outfof theV holden when the cover israised.
Another object of my invention istopro. vide a device in which the brush or brushes are properly inclosed so as to. prevent dust and dirt coming in contact therewith. Further from the provisionv of means. for permitting the brushes and holders to be prop. erly drained and. thereby prevent the brushes and holders from becoming sour or mildewed.
The precise nature of my inventionwill be best understood by.- reference to, the accompanying drawings, zwhch 'Willa now be described, it being premised, however, that changes may be'made in the .details ofcon' struction and the general arrangements of the parts without departing from the s irit and scope of my invention as define in the appended claims.
Referring to the structures shown in Figs.
l1 to 3, the reference character 2 designates a case of a plurality of compartments 3, which are open at the top and bottom. The case 2 is provided with a rearward extension 4 having top and bottom flanges 4 and 5 respectively, and extending from these projections are securing lugs 6. Hinged to lugs 7 on the case is a cover 8, and movably mounted in the lower end of each compartment is a bottom 9, there being suiicient'-, space between the; edge of each bottom and thewlls ofthe compartments to permit any water within the compartments to drain off through the open bottom, and to permit'air toy freely circulate into the compartmentsto dry the brushes contained therein. Connected to each of the bottoms 9 is-Y a rod 10 which is bent upon itself and extends upwardly through openings in the Hangesi and', and: engages the under face of the cover 8. The arrangement being such that when either of the rods 10 is elevated toraise the.y brush in that particular compartment, the cover 8 will be elevated as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 3,.each of the rods is provided with a laterally bentportion. 11 whioh'is arranged to prevent the rods dropping below the position shown 1n Fig; 2.
By carrying the rods: downwardlyand then bending them upon themselves the rods can: be carried up in back ot the4 compartments, so that no metal parts are within the the under end of the tube can be squeezedl to-eject-the properamount of paste for the brush.
In llig.Y 4. I: have shown.- af. construction similar: to that shown in Figs. 1 2 and 3, with the exception that the rods 10a are pivotally connected to the cover at their upper ends. In this construction the rod 10a is provided with a laterally extending projection 16 which is arranged to hold the cover in its elevated position if the rod is pushed far enough so that the rojection passes through the opening in tlib bottom flange 5.
If desired the rods 10, shown in Fig. 2, may also be provided with a projection similar to that shown in Fig. 4, to retain thecover in its elevated position when the rods are moved upwardly.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a construction similar to those already described, but inl which case I have provided a cover 8b for each com artment.
compartment so that the brush willl not contact with any metal parts.
I claim:
1. A container having a' vertically movable cover, a vertically movable bottom and a connection between the cover and the bottom, said connection having a finger push portion extending below the container when the bottom and cover are raised; substantially as described.`
2. A container having a vertically movable cover, a vertically movable bottom, and a connection between the cover and the bottom, said connection having a portion thereof below the container arranged to .form a finger push, and said connection lbeing exterior of said compartment; substantially as described.
3. A container having a vertically movable cover, a vertically movable bottom, and a connecting member between the cover and bottom, said member being connected to the lower side of the bottom and extending thence upwardly to the cover exteriorly of said compartment; substantially as described.
4. A tooth brush holder having a compartment for a tooth brush, a movable cover for said compartment, a movable bottom in said compartment, and a cover actuating device connected to the movable bottom and extending below the lower end of the compartment, and on the exterior of said compartment; substantially as described.
5. A tooth brush holder having a compartment for a tooth brush, a rearward extension at the upper end of the compart- Liconsa ment, a rearward extension at the lower end of said compartment, said extensions forming brackets for securing the holder in position, a cover pivoted to the upper extension, a movable bottom in the compartment, and a cover actuating device connected to the movable bottom and extending below the lower end of the compartment, said actuating device extending upwardly in back of the compartment; substantially as described.
6. A tooth brush holder having a compartment for a tooth brush, a rearward extension at the upper. end of the compartment, a rearward extension at the lower end of said compartment, said extensions forming brackets for securing the holder in p0- sition, a cover ivoted to the upper extension, a movable ottoni in the compartment, a cover actuating device connected to the movable bottom and extending lbelow the lower end of the compartment said actuating device extending upwardly in back of the compartment, and a catch device for retaining the bottom actuatin device in its elevated position; substantial y as described.
7. A tooth brush holder having a compartment for a tooth brush, a rearward extension at the upper end of the compartment,l a rearward extension at the lower end of said compartment, said extensions forming brackets for securing the holder in position, a cover pivoted to the upper extension, a movable bottom in the compartment, a cover actuating device connected to the movable bottom and extending below the lower end of the compartment said actuating device extending upwardly in back of the compartment, a pro]ection on the cover actuating member, and a catch arranged to be engaged by said projection to retain the actuating device in its elevated position; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
