To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN MARIE JOSEPH ROBERT, a citizen of the Republic of France, and resident of Paris, France, post-office ad dress 37 Rue de Bourgoyne, have invented a new and useful Device for Holding and Applying Medicaments, which apparatus is fully set forth in the following specification.
Iodin tincture is now constantly used, and it is admitted that there is no better disinfectant for wounds, but it is difficult to carry and diflicult to applyin an emergency.
The present invention relates to a combined vessel or bottle and brush, which facilitates the transport and the application of the contents of the vessel.
A construction according to this invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in Which-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the brushbottle when not in use, and Fig. 2 is an elevation showing it opened in condition for use.
A vessel a of glass or other thin, frangible material is pointed in shape and closed at both ends 6 and 0. The vessel is constricted at f, which constriction separates two swollen portions d and e and is provided with a circular incision or weakened line produced by a file or grinding. The two portions at 6 contain a wick g of cotton or other material. The said wick is knotted at g and held in the portion e. A constriction It, prevents the knotted portion of the wick from displacement. That part of the wick which forms the brush is contained in the portion 01.
The whole vessel is filled with iodin tincture and when it is to be used, the part (I by exercising a slight effort is broken away on the weakened line on the reduced portion The brush 9 then projects out of the vessel as shown in Fi 2. When the wound is being painted, iodin tincture is supplied .to the wick by capillarity. If the end I) is broken ofl, the wick will be impregnated more rapidly.
The vessel could be used for liquids other than iodin tincture.
For carrying it about, the vessel can be placed in a tube of suitable material such as metal, cardboard or bamboo.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device for containing and applying liquid medicaments, comprising, in combination, a tube of frangible material permanently containing the medicament in liquid form and closed at both ends, said tube having a circumferential weakened line adjacent one end; and a brush for applying the medicament havin a portion thereof permanently held wit in said tube below said weakened line, and the remaining portion normally inclosed by the last-named tube end, whereby, when the tube is broken at said line and the brush-inclosing end is removed, the brush will be exposed and the medicament will be supplied thereto by capillary attraction.
2. A device for containing and applying liquid medicaments, comprising, in combination, a tube of frangible material permanently containing the medicament in liquid form and closed at both ends, said tube having a pair of spaced constrictions adjacent one end, the outer constriction being weak ened; and a brush for applying the medicament having its inner portion permanently held Within said tube between the two constrictions, and its outer portion normally inclosed by the end portion of the tube beyond the weakened outer constriction, whereby when said tube is broken at said weakened outer constriction and the brushinclosing end is removed, the brush will be exposed and the medicament will be supplied thereto by capillary attraction.
