To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR E. PEOK, a citizen of the United States, resident 'of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brush Guards, of which the following is a specification.

Tooth brushes are generally kept with other toilet articles, exposed to the open air and to dust and disease germs. The wet bristles after use of the brush "will collect the dust and other foreign matter floating in the air and the usual rinsing of the brush will fail to thoroughly clean the bristles before or after use.

The object of my present invention is to provide a guard which will effectually cover and protect the brush bristles, preventing the accumulation of dust and foreign matter thereon and kee ing the bristles clean and ready for imme late use at any time.

A further object is to provide a means in connection with the ar which will enable the user of the brus to thoroughly scrape and clean the bristles and remove any foreign matter which may be between them.

The inventionconsists generally in a guard, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing, 2 represents a tooth brush handle havin bristles 3 mounted therein. The guard which I prefer to emplo consists of a back plate 4 having mwar y turned side wings 5 parallel substantially with one another and provided ontheir edges with lugs 6. A space is formed between the wings 5 to receive the brush bristles, the back of the brush closing the space between the wings and having its'end portion fitting into an opening 7 provided between the lugs 6 and the end wall 8 which extends across the guard between the wings. This end wall of the brush near the heel thereof and cooperates with the wall at the point of the brush to aid in holding the guard in place over the bristles. The opening between the flange 9 and the lug 6 is unobstructed and sufficiently large to allow the insertion of the end of the brush therein, the wings havpreferably terminates in ain their edges flared slightly to guide the en s of the bristles into the space between the wings.

As plainly shown in Figs. '3 and 4:, the guard tapers slightly toward its outer end and the space between the wings is gradually contracted to allow the point of the brush to be thrust in between the lug 6 and the wall .8 and be held by the frictional engagement of the back .of the brush with the walls of the wings and the lugs. When the ard is in place, the bristles will be concea ed and protected and the brush may be carried in the pocket or in.a traveling case, or may be exposed with other toilet articles without danger of accumulating dust or-sediment from the air. Whenever necessar the bristles may be easily and quickly 0 eaned,- as indicated in Fig. 4, by inserting the fork .into the base of the bristles and moving it outwardly thereon.

. I claim as my invention 1. A tooth brush lguard comprising a back plate and side wa s formed on the edges thereof, a space being provided between said walls to receive the bristle end of the brush,

3. A tooth brush guard having a part to cover the ends of the bristles and a cleaning-forkprovided at one end of the guard and including prongs adapted to be inserted into and between the bristles when the guard is removed from over the bristles.

'4. A tooth brush guard having a part to cover the ends of the bristles, and a cleaning fork provided at one end of theguard and ada ted'to be seated again% the handle rush near the heel thereof when said guard is over the bristles, said cleaning fork including comparatively narrow tines spaced apart and adapted when said guard is removed from over said bristles to be inserted between the bristles of the brush.

5. A teeth brush cleaning device adapted to be mounted on the brush handle and'hav ing means for insertion between the bristles meeee e of the brush when removed .frem the hen-- bristles and comprising narrow tines adapted for insertion between the bristles of the brush when said guard is removed from over said bristles.

7. A toothbrush guard adapted to cover the ends df the bristles and having means adapted to be inserted between the bristles when the guard is removed from over the bristles.
