To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE BULLOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Grand Junction, county of Mesa, and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Parcel-Carrier, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for carrying parcels and other objects.

In the embodiment in which I have illustrated my present invention the handle and strap-holding parts are composed of a single piece of sheet metal, comprising the handle part formed in such position with reference to the remaining parts of the device that it may be readily engaged manually, a strap or bandretaining means in connection with the handle whereby a number of straps or hands may be utilized to embrace the objects to be carried and to bind the handle in connection therewith.

lVhile I have illustrated the device composed of sheet metal and comprising a raised handle portion .and having its side edges curved so as to constitute a proper and convenient portion to be grasped by the hand, with the handle formed in integral connection with fiat base portions extending outwardly from the ends of the handle and provided with slots to receive the straps which pass under the base portions a sufiicient distance from the handle to be out of the way of the hand, it will be understood that I do not restrict myself to identical features, but that I contemplate such variations and improvements in the construction and arrangement of the parts as constitute the equivalent structures.

One object of the invention is to provide an improved device for carrying parcels and the like comprising a number of straps or bands adapted to embrace the parcels to be carried, in combination with a handle comprising a raised portion adapted to be grasped by the hand, and extended base portions at the ends of the handle having slots formed therein to receive the straps passing under the handle and under the base portions so as to bind the entire device in connection with the parcels. This construction dispenses with the necessity of a special base formed separately from the handle and provides a more convenient and stronger construction than is usually found in devices for this purpose.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, without specific mention, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which the invention is illustrated and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device without the straps or bands. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device having a part thereof in section, to illustrate more clearly the construction by which the straps and handle are connected. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device applied to use for carrying a number of volumes, the straps passing-around the superposed volumes in different forms to prevent them from slipping. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the device in connection with a roll of fabric, such as a blanket, and illustrating two straps passing around the roll, the third strap employed in connection with the separate objects as illustrated in Fig. at being dispensed with in the latter instance.

When the handle and the strap-engaging portions at the opposite ends thereof are composed of a single piece of sheet metal, the unitary structure includes a handle portion 1 having its side edges bent or pressed to provide up-turned rounded portions, thus forming a handle, which is rounded or arcuate in cross section. The two ends of the handle portion 1 are curved downwardly so that the handle viewed in side elevation is substantially in the form of anarch. Each end of the handle includes a fiat base portion 2, which are in the same plane and are of such area that the straps may pass thereunder and engage therewith so as to bind the handle in connection with the parcel.

In the embodiment illustrated the entire device is formed from a sheet metal blank in which the lower ends of the handle merge integrally with the base portions 2. The side edges of each of the base portions are extended downwardly to provide flanges 3 and the endsof said base portions are also turned downwardly to provide end flanges 4, and the lower edges of all of the flanges 3 and 4 are in the same plane and are arranged to bear upon the articles to which the device is secured.

Each of the flanges 4 is also formed'with a slot 8, the latter extending transversely of the base portions and being arranged to receive the longitudinal strap 9 passing through said slots 8 and under the base portions 2 and longitudinally under the'handle. The flange 10 extends inwardly and downwardly from the lower side'of each of the slots 8, said flanges providing relatively broadvand rounded upper bearing surfaces for the longitudinal strap 9, so that said strap will not be damaged or worn,as would result from supporting it upon the thin edges of the sheet metal.

It will be understood by reference to the drawings that the handle portion is of maximum strength as a result of the rounded or curved edges thereof'which extendfrom one to the other of the base portions, and also that the base portions are reinforced and strengthened by the flanges 3 and 4, and also by the flanges 6 and 10. This construction, therefore,'provides a device which is very convenient in use and which is of very strong construction so that there is no need or requirement for the separate base usu g lfiy e straps passing through the slots are retained permanently in position and cannot possibly become detached or separated from the handle when in use. v

When the device is employed inco'nnection with separate parcels or. objects, such as books or the like, it is preferable to employ two transverse straps and a longitudinal strap applied as illustrated in Fig. 4, thus preventing the parcels or objects from work ing loose and maintaining them permanently in proper alinement. However, when the device is employedfor carrying such articles as fabrics, it is unnecessary to make use of the longitudinal strap, since th'ebfabrics may be compressed by the transverse straps to such an extent that displacement is, impossible. 1 V V It will be understood that I do not restrict myself to specificfeatures, but 7 7 What I claim and desire to secure by Let= 1. A device of the characterdescribed comprising a handle portion, and an outdle, and also provided with horizontal slots the outer end thereof adapted to receive a a strap passing transversely under said base portions.

A device of the character described comprising, a handle portion, a downwardly curved portion at each end of said handle portion, a base portion extending outwardly from each of said curved portions and provided with parallel slots at its side edges adapted to receive a strap passing transversely of said base portions, and also provided with a slot at the outer end thereof adapted to receive a strap passing longitudinally under said base portions and under said handle.

A parcel carrier comprising a handle portion, a -downwardly curved portion at each end of said handle portion, a base portion extending outwardly from each of said curved portions, depending flanges at the side edges of said base portions provided with slots adapted to receive transverse straps, depending flanges at the ends of said base portions provided with slots adapted to receive a longitudinal strap, and flanges below said slots adapted to constitute supports for the straps passing throughsaid slots.

4. A parcel carrier "composed of a single piece of sheet metal and comprising a handle having upwardly curved side edges forming a rounded under surface for the hand, flat base portions integral with said handle, and

downwardly extending flanges integral with the side and end edges of said base portions, and provided with slots adapted to receive straps passing therethrough.

A device of the character described comprising a sheet metal section including two base portions at the ends thereof, downwardly extending flanges at the side edges of said base portions having slots therein adapted to receive straps passing transversely under said base portions, a downwardly extending flange at the outer edge of each of said base portions having a slot adapted to receive a strap passing longitudi n'ally under said base portions, and a handle rising vfrom said base portions.
