TOOTH-BRUSH HANDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 23, 1915. Serial No. 41,546.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. MCLEAN, a subject of the King of England, residing at Everett, in the county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brush Handles; and I do hereby declare the following-to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is .directed to improvements in tooth brush handles, and has for its object to so construct a handle that a nameprinted on a card may be attached thereto. easily and quickly.
A further object of theinvention is to provide a tooth brush handle of transparent material, and so constructed that a card having printed thereon the owners name may be attached thereto. I
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig.2=is a similar view showing the,
brush handle in a position for receiving the car Referring to the drawing 1 designates the head of the tooth brush, which is provided with the usual bristles 2. The head 'has formed integral therewith a handle 3, said head and handle being formed from transparent material.
The handle 3 is kerfed, as at 4 to provide sections 5 and 6, and since the handle is made from transparent celluloid orthe like, which is resilient, it is obvious that the sections 5 and 6 will spring toward each other.
The section 6 is provided adjacent its free end'with a pair of spaced ribs 7, which are adapted to bite into the card 8, when the same is placed between the sections 5 and 6, thereby holding the card against accidental displacement.
Since the sections 5 and 6 are transparent it is obvious that the name of the owner which is printed upon both sides of the card may be clearly seen. By providing a pair of ribs 7 the card will not only be prevented from moving longitudinally, but will be pre vented from swinging, or moving laterally.
Uponplacing the card between 1the sections 5 and 6 it is onlythen necessary to Patented Jan. 9, 1917..
grasp the free ends of the sections and force the same toward each other, whereupon the ribs 7 will bite into the card, thereby firmly holding the same in place. Since the sec.-
tions 5 and 6 are necessarily resilient, the
same will engage 'the opposite sides of the card, thereby holding the card clamped therebetween.
It will be of course understood that a handle such as described may be vused in connection with other toilet articles, such as hair brushes, nail brushes and the like.
What is claimed is 1. A tooth brush having a 'handle of transparent material and 'kerfed longitudinally to provide resilient sections, a card engaged between the sections and means for holding the card between the sections, said card having designating characters thereon; 2. A tooth brush having its handle formed from transparent material, said handlebeing kerfed longitudinally to provide resilient sections, a card engaged between the sections one of said sections having ribsdisposed transversely thereof for engaging the card when placed between the sections, said card having printed thereon designating characters. V
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signa ture, in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM MoLEAN. Witnesses! .MAX W. Kon'rrnn, HOWARD M. Gorr.
