Description

T. H. SPURRIER.
PARCEL CARRIER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 29, 1911..
1.2% ,638. Patented Oct. 16, 19112 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS H. SPURRIER, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
PARCEL-CARRIER.
Application filed June 29, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known, that I, THOMAS H. SPURRIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVashington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Parcel-Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in parcel carriers.
The object of the invention is to provide a carrier which is adapted to be readily car ried about, when not in use, in a convenient manner, taking up the least possible space.
W ith the above and other objects in view, this invention has particular features of novelty in construction, which are clearlv described in the specification and illustrated in the drawings wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device showing it attached to a parcel when in use.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same showing the straps folded within the tubular handle and bar members.
Fig. 3 is an end view showing the manner in which the device may be folded when not in use.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings in which like numerals refer to like parts in each of the several views, the numeral 1 designates the strap containing handle having open ends for receiving a strap 7. On the underside, and at the outer ends thereof, are eyes 2 for connecting links 3 for attaching the said handle 1 to the tubular strap containing bar 4 having eyes 5 placed in similar relation thereto. The said bar 4 is also open at its ends for receiving a strap 7. Any suitable connections may be employed that will permit the folding of the handle and bar as hereinafter described.
When the device is in use the tubular bar 4 is secured to the parcel 6 by means of straps 7 which pass through the transverse slots 8 in the ends of the tubular bar 4 and are then drawn tight around the parcel 6 and fastened by suitable buckles 9, thus enabling the parcel to be readily carried about.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 16, 1917..
Serial No. 177,724.
On removing the straps 7 from the parcel they are folded in lengths substantially equal to that of the handle and bar, and one of the straps is then slid within one of the open ends of the handle 1, and the other strap is in like manner put in the tubular bar 4:,
the strap 7 being held against displacement by frictional engagement with the side walls thereof, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
The links 3 between the handle 1 and the bar at are of suitable length and are so arranged with relation to the said handle and bar that the handle may be folded down alongside of the bar when not in use, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, thus permitting the device to be conveniently carried about, occupying only a small space.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation. and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a package carrier of the character described, the combination of a tubular strapcontaining handle member and a tubular strap-containing bar member, straps respec tively foldable in said members, strap attaching means at the ends of the bar member, and link connections between the said handle and bar members of suitable length to permit them to lie in a parallel plane, one beside the other, with the straps therein.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS H. SPURRIER.
