CLARE BRIGGS, OF BATTLE GREEK, MICHIGAN.
TOOTH-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 24', 1918.
Application filed June 16, 1917. Serial No. 175,187.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARE BRIGGS, a itizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, Michigan, have invented certain new 5 and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tooth brushes.
The objects of the invention are:
is First, to provide in a single article a tooth brush, dentifrice container, and dental floss holder, or support.
Second, to provide in an article .of the class described a closure for the dentifrice 1e container which serves as a container for the dental floss. 1
Third, to provide an improved dental floss container or holder.
Further objects, and objects relating'to details and economies of construction and operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by thedevices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure constituting a preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a side elevation of myimproved toothbrush, one position of the cap being shown by dotted lines.
Fig. II is a longitudinal section thereters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring;- to the drawing, my improved tooth brush comprises a handle portion 1, 59 which is hollowed out, as indicated at 2, to
through taken on a line corresponding to provide a suitable container for a dentifrice, and has a cylindrical neck 3 shouldered at its inner end and having an opening 4 therethrough for'the discharge of dentifrice. The closure 5 is provided at one end with a flange 56 6 rot-atably mounted upon the neck and pro- .vided with an opening which is adapted to be brought into register with the opening 4: in the neck 3 for the purpose of discharging 'the dentifrice. The outer end of the closure 5 is shouldered to receive the cap 9. The outer end of the closure 5 is recessed and provided with a central boss 10. The cap 9 is provided with an internal boss 11 0pposed to and in alinement with the boss 10 of the closure 5.
The bosses 10 and 11 are provided with alined spindles 12 which rotatably support the spool 13 for the dental floss which may be withdrawn through the opening 14. A
gutter 21 is provided for severing the dental oss.
The shank 15 of the handle is provided with a channel having under cut sides 16 for receiving the dove-tail shaped rib 17 of the detachable brush head 18.
I also provide a cap 19 for protecting the brush which is of such length as to frictionally engage the handle, as indicated at the point 20, so as to be retained thereon. This cap may be placed over the other end of the handle as shown by dotted lines in Fig. I, and form a part ofthe handle when the brush is being used. This prevents the closurebeing inadvertently opened while the brush is being manipulated and also pre- Eents undesired unwinding of the dental oss.
When it is desired to obtain the dentifrice the closure 5 is rotated until the aperture 7 therein registers with the aperture i in the sleeve-like extension 3 of the handle. This position of the apertures 4 and]? is illustrated in Fig. IV.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An implement. comprising a chambered. handle, a removable hollow closure for said chambered handle rot atably mounted there- 10o on, a removable hollow cap for said closure, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my said cap and closure constituting a supplyhand and seal in the presence of two witcarrying device, and a spool of dental floss nesses.
disposed in said carrying device, said cap CLARE BRIG GS. [11. s.] 5 being provided with an opening through Witnesses:
which the said floss may. be withdrawn, as LORELL N. CUs'rIs,
specified. DEE HARRISON.
