A TTORNEYIZ [TED STATES FFIQE.
WILLIAM OGLE SNYDER, OF VEEDERSBURG, INDIANA.
TOOTHBRUSH AND PASTE-CASE.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, \VILLIAM O. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Veedersburg, county of Fountain, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Toothbrush and Paste-Case; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a portable pocket size toilet article, such as a tooth brush and the like. i
The chief object of this invention is to form the parts of the toilet article such that the several operating parts may be renewed or replaced when exhausted or worn out.
The chief feature of the invention is in providing a tubular handle portion for an operating member and positioning within said handle portion a containing tube or the like and providing a closure member for the tubular portion which is adapted to simultaneously close the tubular container.
A further feature of the invention is in providing the closure member with a supporting member upon which may be mounted a suitable containing reel or spool.
Still a further feature of the invention is that the same may be advantageously used with slight modifications for various purposes, such as a protected portable tooth brush, shaving brush, adhesive applying brush and other articles, such as notions and the like, too numerous to describe in detail.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a central sectional view of the preferred form of the invention showing the same constructed as a dental article, such as a tooth brush. Fig. 2
I is a side elevational view of the same.

the like and to protect the wearing apparel of the personcarrying the same.
Within the tubular handle portion 10 is positioned a dentifrice paste or powder container, tube or the like 14:, which may be removed from said handle when the cap or closure member 15, positioned upon the other end of the handle, is removed. In the preferred form of the invention the cap 15 is provided with one or more bayonet slots 16 adapted to receive the usual complementary pin member 17 secured to the handle portion 10. The foregoing construction is old in the art, and to the same has been applied the invention.
The closure member 15 is provided with a centrally positioned and inwardly extending spindle portion or shaft 18. On said spindle is rotatably supported a spool or reel member 19, the same being adapted to contain dental floss and the like when the invention is applied to a tooth brush. Upon the inner and free end of the spindle 18 is detachably secured a stop member 20 by which the reel or spool 19 is positioned upon said spindle and secured against longitudinal movement thereof. In the present instance -to permit replacement of the sp ool. 19 when the dental floss 21 and the like has become exhausted, the spindle is provided with a threaded end by which the nut member 52-0 is detachably secured thereto. The nut member 20, in addition to limiting the longi tudinal movement of the spool or reel 19 upon the spindle 18, also acts as a closure supporting and centering member for the containing tube 14. The nut member 20 is provided with an inwardly extending cylindrical portion 22, the same having a suitable threaded interior 23 in which the threaded stem or outlet portion 2-1 of the'tube 14 may be threaded to simultaneously close said tube and support the same centrally within the tubular handle portion.
With the foregoing construction it will be noted that when either the reel or spool 19 and the tube 11 become exhausted, or the brush 11 becomes worn out, the same may be readily replaced without necessitating the replacement of the entire supporting and containing elements.
While the invention has been described in great detail, and is herein shown applied to the dental art, various modifications of the same, in the dental and other arts hereinbefore suggested are possible and will readily I bination with a tubular handle portion, an
operating member supported thereby, and a.
container adapted to be positioned within the tubular handle portion, of a closure member for one end of the tubular handle portion, and a reel member rotatably supported by said closure member within said handle portion.
2. In a toilet article and the like, the combination with a tubular handle portion, and an operating member supported thereby; of a closure member for one end of the tubular handle portion, and a reel member rotatably supported'by said closure member within said handle portion.
3. In a toilet article and the like, the combination with a tubular handle portion, an operating member supported thereby, and a container adapted to be positioned within the tubular handle portion,- -o f a closure member. for one end of said handle portion, a shaft secured to said closure member, and a reel supported by said shaft and adapted to be positioned within said handle portion, the free end of said shaft being formed to close the open end of said container.
4. In a toilet article and the like, the combination with a tubular handleportion, an operating member supported thereby, and a container adapted to be positioned within the tubular handle portion, of a closure member for one end of said handle portion, a spindle secured to saidclosure member, a reel rotatably supportedby said spindle and adapted to be positioned within said tubula handle portion when the closure member is positioned thereon, and limit means removably securedftothe free end of said spindle to limit the longitudinal movement of the reel thereon, said limit neans being formed to close the open end of said container, whereby said reel and container may be renewed when exhausted.
5. In a-toilet article and the like, the combination with a tubular handle portion, an
positioned within said tubular handle portion when the closure member is positioned thereon, and limit means removably secured to the free end of said spindle to limit the longitudinal movement of the reel thereon,
said limit means being formed to close the open end of said container, whereby said reel and container may be renewed when exhausted.
6. In a toilet article and the like, the combination with a tubular handle portion, an operating member at one end thereof and detachably secured thereto for renewal purposes, a protecting and inclosing cap surrounding said member and removably secured to the handle portion, and a container adapted to be positioned within the tubular handle portion, of a closure member for the other end of said handle portion, a shaft secured to said closure member, a reel supported by said shaft and adapted to be positioned within said tubular handle portion when the closure member is positioned thereon, the free end of said shaft being formed to close the open end of said container, whereby said reel and container may be renewed when exhausted.
In witness whereof I have hereunto aihxed
