TOILE'l- CASE.

Application led April 36, 1919. Serial No. 293,7i2.
T o all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. SoHMnRLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in T oilet-Cases, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. l L
This invention relates to certain improvements in toilet cases and has relation to a device more particularly adapted for use in connection with dental articles or accessories and more particularly a tooth brush and a dentifrice cream tube, and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character particularly adapted to be carried in a pocket.
It is also an object of the invention to 'provide a novel and improved device of this gen# eral character comprising a brush holder provided with means whereby a cream tube may be carried thereby.
Another object of the'invention is to provide a novel and improveddevice of this general character including a hollow or tubular brush holder provided with internal means for retaining a cream tube or the like within the holder and wherein said means is readily removed from the holder to facilitate the application of the .cream to the brush.l
The invention consists in the detailsofA construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved toilet case whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
`The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the hetter understood, I willl now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through a toilet case constructed in accordance with an embodiment of myinvention.
F ig. 2 is a sectional view taken central portion of the elongated ,tubular member comprised in my improved case.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view in end elevation Fig. 4 is a view in elevation of the retaining clip included in my improved case.
through the- As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes an elongated tubular member having its opposite end portions open and cylindrical in form, while opposed faces a of the intermediate portion thereof are inbowed end portion 4 of the handle I-I thereof immediately adjacent the head of the brush cylindrical inform and exteriorly threaded for interlocking engagement within the bore 3 of the member 2. The portion 5 of the handle H outwardly of the portion 4 is gradually tapered and the outer or free extremity of said portion 5 is'offset as at 6, so that when the handle is properly applied within the member 1, vthe possibility of wabbling is substantially eliminated. A portion 5 inwardly of the threaded portion 4 is provided with Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 9, T921..
the enlargement or head 4a of a diameter in excess of the diameter of the bore 3 ofthe The anuular member 2 is adapted to be se- 'cured within the member 1 in any desired manner, but as this particular attachment forms no part of my present invention, it is believed that a detailed description and illustration thereof is unnecessary.
Threaded or otherwise removably engaged within the opposite end portion of the member 1 is a plug or cap 7 and in swivel engagement with the inner face of said plug or cap 7 and at substantially the axial center of the plug or cap is the inwardly disposed clip C. The `clip C is formed of spring steel or the like and is substantially U-shaped in form with its base or intermediate portion 8 engaged-with the plug or cap 7, while one of the arms 9 of the clip is provided with an inwardly directed extension 10 disposed between the arm 9 and the second arm 9a. By this construction, effective spring jaws are provided 'to' receiveeh'efebaweveniand `ffietionallyengage the closed end portion ofthe dental cream tube T which tube is ofthel well known collapsible type. Bv-having the .clip C in swivel connection with the plug or cap 7.5 it will be at once seen that the `requisite L rotation vmay vbe appliedto such capl or plug without *interference or vhindrance being offered lby the'tiibeT vwhen arranged within v the memblerl. j
" It is to ,be'vunderstoodin*practice that when. it is desired tol` apply dentifrice cream'v 1 to the brush B,.f,the ltube T can be readily removed from the f member 1l and whenthe tube is not in use, vit canbereadily returned vvv'rithin said member: 1 and efec'tually mainytained therein.
i' The head 11i lat the'delivery end of the tube T is provided with a dischargel opening 12 vinthe form of an isosceles triangle with its altitude equal to Substantially one-half` the length of the equal sides of lthe opening, The opening 12 isnor'mally closed by the flat plate or slide13 mounted for movement inthewparallel guideways 14Cl arranged at oppositel sides' of said opening 12' and similar ends ofthe-guides 14 are connected by the cross member 15 which serves as a stop to limit the inward movement of the plate or slide to assure the proper disposal of said plate or slide over the opening 12 when the tube is notin use, so that the contents vof said tube will be closed against ingress of dust, dirt or other lforeign matter.
Engageable with the end portion of the member 1 at which-the annular member 5 is arranged is a cover or cap 16 which, when in. applied position, incases or houses the portion of the brush B extending outwardly of the member 1, and in order to permit the drying of the brush when applied to the member 1 after use, the side and outer closed end of the cover or cap 16 are provided with Ventilating openings 17.
In view of the foregoing, it is believed to be clearly apparent that a toilet case con- `structed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention maintains the dental articles or accessories arranged therein in a highly sanitary condition, yet permits said articles or accessories to be employed with convenience and facility as the occasions of practice mayl necessitate. l
I also Afind it of advantage to provide the cover or cap 16 with the clip 18 which clip 18 adjacent its connected end is provided entirely thereacross with a transversely disposed and outstanding hump, whereby the coaction of the clip with a wall of a pocket or the likeis materiallyfacilitated. The clip 18 has struck from its central portion the'longitudinally disposed tongue 18EL which tongue 18a is adapted to engage over the wall ofthe pocket or the like yin a well known manner.
V- The opposed 1fac'eslaof thetubular member 1also provide a firm grip when the 'device is in. use and'also an effective gripping of the tube T, as opposed faces' of the tube T will also be depressed or `flattened when the tube T isinserted in the member 1.
Thefoff'set portion 6.of the handle H re-v structed in accordance w-ith my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason ofthe convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also'be obvious that my invention i's susceptibleof some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim: y
In combination with a brush and a handle therefor substantially alined with a brush, a case comprising an elongated tubular member having one end member arranged within said open end portion Aof the member and through which the open, an annular handleis loosely directed, the outer ex-v tremity of the handle and the bore of the annular member being provided with coact- 105 an article engaging member in swiveled connection with the inner face of the plug. Y
In ltestlmony whereof I hereunto aiiX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH JOEL SCHMERLER.
