'lhe present invention relates to tooth brushes; and its object, briefly stated, is the io provision ot an article ot thecharaeter in dicated embodying a bristle-carrying member or brush proper which may be readily detached when the bristles become worn and replaced by a new one., the invention residia ing primarily in the improved means or devices employed to retain the bristlecarrying member in place.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing,"
Figure l is a part-sectional side elevation of one term which the invention may take in practice.
Fig. 2 is a trent view thereof, also partly in section, but with the brush proper omitted at and the head and the adjacent part or member ot the handle separated from the other part or member oit the handle.
As represented in said drawing, the im proved brush embodies a handle l and a ao head or holder; the latter being indicated generally at l and being provided with a recess ll to contormably and removably receive therein the bach ot the bristle-car rying member or brush proper.
'lhe yhandle l is structurally .separate trom and capable ot rotation with relation to the shank d ot the head. 'lhe inner end ot the handle has attached to it a threaded stem 2, forming a locking element and terminating in a point 3; said stem adapted to be screwed into a lthreaded axial passage l2 in the shank 4f which opens through the wall of the brush-holding recess ll. rl`he brush back 5 has formed in its circumferential wall, at one end of its niedian line, a hole or seat 7 to receive a lateral spur 8 on the wall of recess ll; and at the other end of its said median line it is formed with a hole or seat 6 registering with the open end ot the threaded passage l2.
l claim as my invention:
it brush, comprising a head provided with a brush-holding recess; a shank rigidly connested to the head and having a threaded axial passage opening at its inner end directly through the wall of said recess and at its outer end through the tree end of the shanln said wall being provided with a lateral spur which is located diametrically opposite the inner end ot said passage; a brush having its back con'tormablyT and removably litting in said recess and provided at one end with a seat toreceive said spur and at the other end with a seat in register with said inner passage end; a removable handle; and a threaded locking stem lined to the inner end ot the handle :tor engagement in said passage and terminating in a point which projects through the inner passage end into the second-named seat.
