By swinging member 24 to one side on its pivot the empty tube may be easily removed and anew filled tube substituted therefor.

On the opposite side of the handle 17 is mounted Jhe tooth brush proper comprising a bristle head 27 and a shank 28. The handle is preferably provided with a longitudinally extending recess 29 having side Walls 30 between which the shank of the brush is pivoted by means of transversely extending pin 31. The end of the brush shank is slit, as shown at 32, and provided with a transverse opening 33 in this slit to receive the pin 31. The material of which the shank is made is sufficiently resilient to allow the portion thereof on opposite sides of the slit to yield to allow the pin 31 to pass from the end of the shank to the opening 33, and yieldingly retain the same therein, so that by merely forcing the pin into the slot the brush will be mounted in the handle, or by pulling on the saine it may be removed for easy renewals. Extending longitudinally of the recess 29 beneath the shank is a fiat spring 34 bearing against the shank, which will thus retain the brush with its bristle head either adjacent the discharge nozzle y22 as shown in Fig. 6, or hold it extended in the opposite direction for use as shown in Fig. 3.

The bristle head comprises a plurality of rows of bristle with the longitudinal central rows 35 shorter than the side rows 36 so as to provide a sort of longitudinally eX- tending trough at the top of the bristles in which the discharge nozzle 22 is preferably positioned when the bristle khead is in the position shown in Figs. 6 and 9 to receive a supply of dentifrice. The nozzle 22 is provided with a lateral discharge opening 37 and this nozzle is preferably of such a length that this discharge opening is substantially midway the lengt-h of the bristle head, although it may be given other locations if desired. This opening is controlled by a plunger or piston 38 fitting the interior of the tube or nozzle and slidable longitudinally therein to and from a position over this discharge opening to close the same, as shown in Fig. 12, or to a position to uncover the same, as shown in Fig. 6. The piston is provided with a shank 39 projecting from the end of the nozzle provided with a suitable flat head 40 and with laterally projecting lugs 41. The opening in the end of the nozzle for passage of the shank has two lateral slots for the passage of these lugs so that when the piston is moved inwardly to cover the discharge opening, rotation of the plunger will bring the lugs 41 into alignment with the end walls of the discharge nozzle and secure this plunger in closed position. When it is desired to discharge dentifrice from the tube by turning the plunger back to bring these lugs into alignment with the slots inthe end of the nozzle, pressure applied to the body of the tube 19 will force the plunger outwardly and will uncover the discharge opening. A suitable mark, as an arrow, may be placed on the discharge nozzle to indicate when the plunger is in unlocked position.

Within the body of the handle 17 andv between the two recesses 18 and 29 for the dentifrice container and the brush, is a pocket 42 to carry a supply of dental floss 43. This is preferably a long coil inserted in a separate sanitary container comprising a `glass tube 44 which may be inserted through the open end of this pocket, the opening through this pocket being in the end wall of the handle. Pivoted to this end wall as by a suitable rivet 45 is a cover plate 46 of a shape substantially the shape of the end of the handle and provided with a recess 47 in one side thereof adapted to receive a pin or lug 48 carried by the handle to yieldingly retain this cover plate in closed position, and suitable stop means such as a pin 49 adapted to enter a notch 50 may be provided to limit movement of this plate in one. direction. The plate is also provided with a notch for passage of the floss, as shown in Fig. 2, and the cover plate also is provided with a cutter 52, preferably struck up therefrom. for cutting the floss to lengths as desired. Then the cover plate 46 is in closed position the free end of the floss is clamped between this plate and the end of the handle, so that this free end is held in position where it is easily accessible.

The outer end of the handle adjacent the plate 45 is provided on the opposite sides thereof with recesses 53 providing shoulders 54 for insertion of the thumb and finger to facilitate the removal of the handle and brush from the casing 13. The casing is provided adjacent its open end on the opposite sides thereof with notches 55, so located that when the brush and handle are inserted in the casing they will be in alignment with the recesses 53 and allow gripping of the same with the thumb and finger. The walls of the casing 13 are bent inwardly somewhat at the inner end of the notches 55 as shown at 56 to yieldingly engage in these notches and prevent accidental removal of the handle from the casing.

It will be apparent from the 'foregoing description that as the casing 13 is smooth and unobstructed on its outer surface the complete article will form a neat and simple package vwhich may be easily carried, and that the ventilating openings 15 and 16 provide the required ventilation and keep the brush dry when not in use. When it is desired to use the brush, by merely gripping the recesses and shoulders 24 with the thumb and finger, the handle, brush and dentifrice container may be withdrawn from the casincenso ing. The piston or plunger 3S may then be unlocked by turning the head 40 to bring` the lugs el into alignment with the grooves in the end of the nozzle. lThen by merely pressing of the fingers on the side of the container 19 pressingthis container against the bottom of the vrecess 18, dentifrice will be forced into the nozzle movin@ the plunger 38 awa-y from the discharge opening 37 and allowing dentifrice to be discharged onto the bristles. Having thus set forth the nature of my inventionywhat l claim is:

1. In combination a handle, a dentifrice container carried by said handle and provided with a nozzle projecting longitudinally fronione end. thereof and provided with a lateral discharge opening, a brush provided with a bristle head haying the central longitudinal rows of bristles shorter than those on the opposite sides thereof, and means for securing the brush to the handle with the head at one side of and extending longitudinally ofthe nozzle and the free ends of the bristles arranged along the side of the nozzle with `the shorter bristles in alignment with the discharge opening and with said opening intermediate the ends of the bristle head, said securing means also adapted to allowmovement of the head away from the nozzle to a position for use.

8. In combination a handle, a dentifrice container carried by the handle and provided withr a discharge nozzle `projecting from one end thereof, a brush pivoted to the handle and provided with a bristle head, said .pivot being arranged to allow positioning of the head with the free ends of the bristles al-ong one side of and adjacent the nozzle to receive dentifrice therefrom or projecting from the other end or" the handle, said nozzle having av discharge opening intermediate the ends of the bristle head when the head is in dentifrice receiving position, and a spring bearing on said brush and arranged to hold it in either` position.

9. In combination a handle, a brush having a shank, a pivot pin carried by the handle, said shank being resilientand slit at its end and provided with a transverse opening communicating with said slit, said slit and opening arranged to allow lateral insertion of the pin into said opening through the slit.

In a device of the character described a handle adapted to carry a dentifrice container and a brush, said handle lbeing pro vided with a pocket leading from one end thereof to carry a supply of dental floss, a cover plate movably secured to the end of the handle to cover the entrance to said pocket, and means for positioning the plate in closed position. v

In a device of the character described a handle adapted to carry a dentifrice container and a brush, said handle being provided with ay poclret leading from one end thereof to lcarry a supply of dental floss, a cover plate movably secured to the end of the handle to coverr the entrance to said pocket, said cover plate being arranged to clamp the free end of the floss against the handle and provided with a recess to allow passage of the floss.

l5. In al device of the character described a handle adapted to carry a dentifrice container and a brush, said h-andle being provided with a pocket leading from one end thereof to carry a supply of dental ioss, a cover plate movably secured to the end of the handle to cover the entrance to said pocket, said cover plate being provided with means to allow passage of the floss and a cutter to sever the same.

i6. In a device of the class described a tubular casing open at one end and provided with notches on the opposite sides of said open end, a brush and handle adapted for insertion in said casing, said handle being provided with recesses on its opposite sides in alignment with the recesses in the casing, the inner ends of the recesses in the casing being bentl inwardly to yieldingly engage the walls of the recesses in the handle.
