DISPENBING DEVICE.
Application illed lay 4,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, SEM S. CnLANo, a subject of the King of Italy, and resident of the city of New York borough of Manhattan, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and Imroved Dispensing Device, of which the folowing is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a brush and more particularl to such a brush as is primarily intended or use in connection with the brushing of the teeth and aims to provide certain new and usefu improvements in connection with a device of this character.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a brush with which a tube of tooth be operatively combined to permit of t substance contained within the tube or -article being applied directly 'to the bristles of the brush.
It is a further object of the present in vention to rovide a device of the character state'd, which includes a body adapted to house the tube of tooth paste or similar article, so as to provide a self-contained and compact device of this character.
A still further object of this invention is that of constructing a tooth brush capable of being manufactured at a nominal figure, and presenting a pleasing appearance.
With these and further objects in mind my present invention has reference to a brush of the type stated which will include a hollow portion adapted to receive a tube of tooth paste or a similar article together with means which will serve to express the contents of this latter member t0 cause the said contents to be associated with the bristles of the brush.
Reference is had to the attached sheet of drawings as illustrating one practical embodiment of this invention, and in these views it will be seen that Figure 1 is a sectional side view of a brush embodying my improved construction.
Figure Z is a sectional plan view of a portion thereof, and
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line 3-3 and in the direction of the arrows indicated in Figure 2.
It will be seen in these views that the reference numeral 5 indicates the handle or 1922. Serial K0. 558,544.
body of the brush to which is atlxed the head 6 carrying the bristles 7 in accordance with conventional construction.
It will be noted, however, that centrar to conventional construction the handle 5 1s preferably hollow and formed with an open end portion which is normally closed by means of a cap 8 associated with the same. A shaft is carried by the cap 8 and presents a divided portion 10 with which the end of a conventional tooth paste tube 11 may be associated. Thus upon the end of the tube 11 being applied to the shaft 9, and the latter bein f turned by any suitable means such as a ey 12, it will be appreciated that the lower end of the tube will be twisted, as has been clearly indicated in Figure 2, thus expressing a portion of the contents of the tube 11 through the neck 13 thereof, it being noted that co-incident with this action the body of the tube will be drawn rearwardly within the body of the handle 5, due to the fact that the same is being wound upon the shaft 9.
It will further be seen that the head 6 is .formed with a passage 14, which has its inner end in communication with the interior of the handle 5, its opposite end terminating at a oint adjacent the base of the bristles 7. o now operatively connect the neck 13 of the tube 11l with the brush in such a manner that the substance within the tube will be introduced at a point adjacent the bristles, it will be seen that I utilize a tube 15 which is slidably mounted within the passage 14, and has its inner end extending in the form of a cap adapted to be coupled to the neck 13 of the tube 11.
From the foregoing it will be appreciated that all of the objects of my invention have been accomplished incident to the fact that the turning of the shaft 9 will cause a certain amount of the contents of the tube 11 to be expressed into the tube 15 and thence through the passage 14 to the bristles of the brush. Also upon the tube 11 moving rearwardly within the handle 5 incident to the twisting action of the shaft 9 it will be ap preciated that the connection existing between the tube and bristles will not be broken incident to the tube l5, which is cou led to the tube 1l so that this connection willpalways be established. Further it will be noted that the parts of this brush may I,readily be cleaned and that all of the same are accessible for eitherthis purpoee or for the urpoee of renewing the tube within the han le.
It will be appreciated that numerous modifications of structure might readily be resorted to without in the least darting from the scope of my claims; whi are- 1. A dispensing device for a flexible tube of extrusible material, said-device includin material-guiding means ha a bore an including a tubular member dable in the bore, means carried by said member vvhereby the same may be mounted at the discharge mouth of the tube so that material extruded from the tube must pass through said bore, and means for squeezing the tube and retractin the tube relative to the bore to slide said member in the bore.
.2. The dis device defined in claim 1,' wherein a ollow cae' and a removable cap therefor are carried y the means first mentioned, said cas' for containing said tube, and the last-mentloned means comprisi a rotatable member adapted to be attac ed to the end of the tube opposite its said mouth, said rotatable member being journaled in said cap.
3. The dispensing device Yde'iined in claim 1, wherein said tube carries external threads at its mouth, and said tubular member carries coacting internal threads at one end.
SEM S. CELANO.
