G. WICKBERG TOOTHBRUSH Filed May 21 1919 Patented Get. 2, F190 hll f- STTS area GODFREY WICKBERG, 0F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
roornnansn.
Application flled may 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GODFREY WIoKBnao, a citizen of the United States, residin at Seattle, county of King, and State of ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toothbrushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tooth brushes andit has for a general object to provide a novel and improved tooth brush with which both the inner and outer surfaces of the teeth may be conveniently brushed.
The invention also has for an object to provide a. tooth brush peculiarly adapted for brushing the inner surfaces of the teeth.
Other objects relate to the provision of improved means for mounting the brush members on a suitable handle.
For further comprehension of the inven-' tion and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and
' and on .opposite faces with longitudinal dovetail grooves26 and 27, which taper inwardly as shown. ,7
The groove 26 has inserted therein a strip 28 to which the bristles 29 are fixed in the- .usual manner. This strip 28 preferably corresponds in dimensions to the groove 26 so as to preserve the contour of the handle when in position.
The groove 27 receives a complementary tail 30 on a strip 31 on which is mounted by a pin 32 a convex base 12' carrying bristles 33.
It is believed that the manner of usin' my improved tooth brush will be apparent rom the foregoing description. In using the brush for cleaning the inside of the teeth the handle will beinserted'between the teeth and then moved forwardly to bring the brush into engagement therewith, the brush then 1919. Serial No. 298,721.
being moved along the teeth in engagement with the inner surfaces of the latter.
It will be apparent from the above that either of the brush elements can be removed while the other is being used, thus providing two distinct brushes, one for brushing $0 the outside and one for brushing the inside of the teeth. Also that-both brushes will fit the same end of the handle, permitting both brushes to be used alternatel on one end if desired. Also that an individual brush for use on either the outside or inside of the teeth is provided.
It is noted that the handle 25 has a tapering longitudinal recess 27 at the right hand end therbf the brush 33-having its back 7 32' enlar ed to form. a means of attachment thereof eing mounted upon the brush support comprising a narrow bod portion 30 which is inserted in the. sai recess and moves longitudinally therein when being detached therefrom, which brush support also has an end portion 31 formed with shoulders flush ith and extending beyond the handle.
I provide means to stop undue inward prising the tapering recess 9/7, and also means comprising the dovetail sides of the said recess to partially resist outward movement thereof and, with the co-operation of -movement of the said body portion 30 com- $9 the said shoulders, to prevent lateral movement of the said body portion whenthe handle is moved sidewise.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by W Letters Patent, is:-
In a device of the class described, a flattened handle having a longitudinally grooved recess at the end thereof which is dovetailed in cross section, a detachable brush supporting member having a shallow body portion which is dovetailed to be frictionally inserted in the recess of the handle and longitudinally movable in the direction of the handle when being'detached there- 1100 from, and also having an outer end part formed with shoulders finish with the handle end. and a brush carried by said support, said shoulders forming means to stop undue inward movement of the brush support.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
' GODFREY WICKBE.
