BATH BRUSH.

T0 all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that lim La Bann, a citizen of the United States, residing at ahland, in the county of Alameda and State of Calitornia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

rlhis invention relates to abath brush and has for its principal object to provide abath brush in which the brush is adapted to contain a soap and water` while the same is being used and also provide and save considerable time in obtaining a good lather.

Another object of the invention is to provide a bath brush of the above mentioned character, which will hold soap and water in separate compartments the brush beingl` adapted to receive the soapy water from the` compartment containing the soap and water so as to allow the bristles to become thoroughly lathered whenever it is desired to use the brush.

A still further object of the invention, is to provide a bath brush of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, durable, and well adapted for the purposeflior which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages ot this inventio-n will become apparaent during the course of the-'following description.

In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral l designates the receptacle which is open at both ends and arranged within the receptacle 1 is a division plate 2. This division plate 2 is formed in the receptacle and integrally therewith adjacent the lower portion of the receptacle as more clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawings.

rlhe division plate 2 is provided with a central longitudinal slot 3 the purpose of. which will be hereinafter more fully described. This plate 2 divides the receptacle into an upper compartment a and a lower compartment 5. The upper compartment 4L is adapted to receive a piece of soap or other cleaning element 6 and also receive a quantity of water either hot or cold, whichever is so desired. A suitable cover 7 is provided for the receptacle, the same being oval-shaped in plan and having its upper portion convened, the peripheral edges ci the same being bent inwardly and thence downwardly to Jform depending flanges. These flanges are designed to fit snugly within the inner walls of the upper compartment or receptacle. The bending inwardly of the peripheral edges of the upper portion or' the cover to form the depending flanges provides a peripheral shoulder which is adapted to rest upon the upper peripheral edge of the upper compartment or receptacle l. This shoulder projects beyond the receptacle and permits the same being readily removed when desired. rThis construction is clearly shown in Fig. l of the drawing.

Adapted to be seated within the lower compartment 5 of the receptacle l is the brush head S. This brush head 8 is provided with the usual tufts or bristles 9 which is of the usual construction and further details relating thereto are not thought necessary to be described in the present instance.

The brush head :tits snugly into the compartment 5 so that the back of the brush head will lie tlush against the bottom tace ot the division plate 2. In the back ot the brush head 8 is provided a longitudinal slot for the purpose of communicating with the central longitudinal slot 3 formed in the division plate 2 and communicating with this longitudinal groove l0 formed in the back of the brush head 8 are a plurality or series of transverse perforations or conduits l1.

These perforations or conduits 11 are arranged with relation to the longitudinal groove l() formed in the back of the brush head 8 in such a manner that the soapy water which comes from the chamber or compartment l through the central longitudinal slot 3 formed in the division plate 2 will cause the water to pass through the perforations 1l and onto and communicate with the bristles or tufts 9.

At one end of the receptacle l I provide a flanged portion l2 which is internally threaded to receive a suitable handle 13 which is provided with a threaded reduced portion 14 which is adapted to communicate with the internally threaded flange l2 whereby the bath brush may be conveniently used.

In use the cover is removed from the compartment 4 and the cake of soap 6 is placed in the compartment a and water is added in the compartment as is necessary. The cover 7 is then slightly inserted into the compartment 4 and is frictionally held therein. By taking the receptacle l by the handle 13 which has been threaded into the fianged portion 12 of the receptacle l and oscillating or shaking the receptacle l together with the soap and water contained in the compartment l a few times, the water and soap coming together will cause soap suds to be formed and while the soap suds are being formed the same will be allowed to pass through the opening 3 formed in the division plate 2 and then passed into the longitudinal groove l0 formed in the back of the brush head 8 and passed therefrom into the series of perforations ll and out onto the bristles 9.

It will thus be seen that a person can use a bath brush of the above mentioned character, without the necessity of having to hold a cake of soap in one hand and the brush in the other while the same are being used and furthermore will save considerable time in obtaining the lather. It is only necessary to refill the compartment l with water in order that the brush may be used continuously.

A brush of this character can also be used not only for a bath brush but also for any other suitable means which may be found necessary. lVith a brush of the above mentioned character its usefulness can be readily understood and the facility of its simplicity can also be appreciated.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and While I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion, and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention. Having thus described my invention, -what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bath brush of the class described comprising a body member of oval cross-section, said body member being provided with an opening therethrough, an integral partition formed therewithin adjacent the lower edge of said body to provide upper and lower compartments, the upper compartment forming substantially a receptacle adapted to receive soap and water, said partition being provided with aV central longitudinal slot to permit the water within the'receptacle to flow therethroughto the lower compartment, a brush head secured'within thelower compartment, the uppery face of the brush head being provided with a central longitudinal groove registering with the slot in said partition, said brushhead also being provided with series of transverse perforations extending completely throughV the brush head and communicating with said longitudinal groove, whereby to permit water from the receptacle to How the-rethrough, a handle member removably secured to the body, and a removable cover for the receptacle provided with depending flanges snugly fitting `the inner walls of said receptacle, said cover at the junction of the top portion and flanges thereof being formed with a peripheral shoulder adapted to rest upon the upper peripheral edge of the body, as and for the purposes described.
