Description

Feb. 17. 1925.
H. s. DANIEL COMBINED TOOTHPICK AND TOOTH CLEANER Filed June 20, 1924 ATTORNEY.
Patented Feb. 17, i925.
HAL S. DANIEL, OF MEXICO, MISSOURI.
COMBINED TOOTHPIGK Application filed June 20,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it" known that I, HAL S. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mexico, in the county of Audrain and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined lloothpicks and Tooth Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dental devices, more particularly to devices for removing obstructions or accumulations from between the teeth, and likewise for removing adhering deposits of tartar and the like, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efiiciency of devices of this character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, including a tubular stock pointed at one end to constitute a tooth pick and with a resilient wire extending from the other end, and 'th improved means for supporting the wire element within the stock.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the'draw ings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device. J
Figure 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section. i Figure 3 is a transverse section'on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure-4: is a perspective view of a modified construction of the improved device.
lhe improved device comprises a tubula r stock or body pointed at one end as shown at 11, to constitute a tooth pick, and with the other directed transversely, as shown. I
The stock may be of any suitable mate- AND 'roo'rn canny 1924. Serial No. 721,304.
of tubular construction, as when feather quills are used, a resilient wire 12 will be extended into the unpointed end of the stock and secured inposition by a quantity of cementitious material represented at 13 and extending into a part of theinterior of the stock, as represented in Figure 2.
Any suitable cement may be employed to hold the wire 12 in position, and the outer or free end of the wire member is curved laterally and bluntly sharpened as shown.
Disposed within the portion of thestock 10 not occupied by the cement 13 is a filler 14; of yieldablev material, such as rubber, which permits a slight lateral movement of the wire when in use and thusis prevented from loosening the fillings between the teeth when drawn between them.
Attached tothe stock 10 is a thumb and forefinger grip 15 of any? suitable form, ton instance in the form shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3, or in the form shown in Figure 4, or other form as may be preferred.
The grip member may be of any suitable material, for instance of rubber or the like, or of modeling cement in some forms of the device. 7
The improved device is simple in con struction, is strong and durable, and efiectual for the removal of obstructions from between the teeth or for the removal of adhesions of tartar and the like.
The curved wire element enables parts of the teeth and gums to be reached which are inaccessible to the ordinary tooth pick.,
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention'or sac- I rificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is: I
1. A device of the class described comprising a tubular stock, a resilient wire member extending into said tubularstock,
a filler of cementitious material enclosing a portion of said Wire member within the stock, and a filler of yieldable material enclosing a portion of the wire member within the stock.
2. A device of the class described com- 5 prising a tubular stock,a finger grip element attached to said tubular stock, a resilient wire member extending into said tubular stock, a filler of cementitious material enclosing a portion of said wire member within the stock, and a filler of yieldable material enclosing a portion of the wire member within the stock.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
HAL S; DANIEL.
