JOSEPH ENZEB, JOSEPH PRESNER, AND GERALD S. TRITT, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, I CANADA.
TOILET ARTICLE.
Application filed May 28,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J OSEPH ENZER, J o- SEPH PnnsNnn, and GERALD S. Tnrrr, all of the city of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, subjects of the King of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Articles; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Our invention relates generally to articles for cleaning the teeth and particularly to vest pocket kits such as described in a companion application Serial No. 708,705.
The primary object of our invention is to provide a kit of this type which is more sanitary and compact and which has a decorative exterior when closed.
Other objects are to simplify the con struction, secure added. durability and re duce the costof production.
To this end the invention consists of the combination, construction and particular arrangement of the parts hereinafter 1 Off scribed and illustrated and pointed out in the claims.
For full comprehension, however, of our invention, reference must be had to the accompanying drawings in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a vest pocket tooth cleaning kit constructed according to our invention;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof; 7
Figure 3 is a detail view ofthe combined tooth brush and cover removed;
Figured is a detail view of the case;
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 Figure 1;
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view of the tooth brush, the section being taken on line 6-6 Figure 3;v I
Figure 7 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 7-7 Figure 3; and
Figure 8 is a similar View taken on line 88 Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings the preferred embodiment of our invention consists of a case 2 constructed of any desired material, such as aluminum, celluloid, rubber or the like, a tooth brush 3, and a dentifrice receptacle 4:.
The case consists of a unitary member of 1924. Serial No. 716,413.
vest-pocket size and of U-cross-section presenting a curved bottom 5, and vertical side walls 6 and 7, the top edges of which are bent inwardly as at 8. The top side and one end of the member is open as at 9 and the side walls are rounded off as at 10 to remove the sharp corners and conform to correspondingly shaped portions on the tooth brush handle which closes the open side and end of the case when in position thereon. The opposite end of the case is closed by a wall 12 which is curved correspondingly to the bottom 5. This wall is extended up a sufficient distance to present a lip 13 overhanging the top side under which the adjacent end 14 of the tooth brush is located when in closed position.
The tooth brush 3 consistsv of a handle 15 having one end terminating in a hooked enlargement 16 presenting an exterior corresponding in shape to the shape of the opposite end of the, case, and a brush 17 detachably mount-ed upon the end of the handle opposite to its hooked end.
The handle in the present embodiment is hollow although not essentially so and comprises an outer member 15 of hollow channel cross-section presenting inwardly turned longitudinal side edges 15 and an inner member 15 slidably mounted thereon in position closing the open side of the channel, such inner member having hooked side edges 15 fitting between and inter-- looking with the edges 15 of the outer member, the two members coacting in presenting longitudinal external grooves 20 to receive the inwardly turned edges 8 on the main case so that the handle may be slidably mounted thereon.
The inner member 15 is less in length than the outer member to accommodate a slide 21 carrying the brush. The sides of this slide are grooved as at 22 to receive the inwardly turned edges 15" and to coact therewith in providing external grooves forming continuations of the grooves 20 and it is locked in place by a spring detent 23, the latter having a depression 2-1 which is adapted to interlock with a lug 25 on the adjacent portion of the member 15.
The dentifrice receptacle 4 consists preferably of a flexible tube which is located loosely within the case between thebrush and the hooked end of its handle.
If desired a spring clip 27 may be mounted upon the handle for c etachably retaining the tube in position.
In order to provideventilation that portion of the case immediately adjacent the brush has one or more ports 30. p
In assembling our improved kit one end of the dentifrice receptacle is laid length.- wise upon the handle and its narrow end inserted beneath the clip, the handle is then slidahly mounted upon the case to position, closing the top and end thereof, the assembled unit presenting a compact and decorative exterior and occupying minimum space.
In opening the unit tor use the ope 'ation is reversed. v
To facilitatethe opening movement the handle is provided with a depression 28 in its back in which the thumb or linger of the user may be inserted.
A spring clip for securing the unit in the pocket is attached to one of the side walls of the case as at 35. I g
If the case is constructed or" metal it may be found preferable to cover the interior with a layer of celluloid or the like at40 and the exterior may also be covered with some decorative fabric or leather.
