PATENT OFFICE- LAVERN EDWARD MOORE, F PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA.
CALENDAR FOR PENGILS.
Application filed January 15, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAVERN EDWARD MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palo Alto, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendars for Pencils; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,.such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a calendar for pencils, other writing instruments or the like.
It is aimed to provide a novel construction which is inexpensive, simple and durable, which may be used perpetually and which may have its securing nut function as a clip to attach a pencil or the'liketo the clothing of the wearer.
The specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawing illustrat- 25 ing an operative embodiment.
In said drawing:
Figure-1 is a View in side elevation illustrating the device in place on a pencil;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1; and
Figures 3, 4: and 5, are perspective views of the cylinder, the day ring and the fastening clip, respectively.
Referring specifically to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, the device uses a cylinler as at which may be of metal or other suitable material and be applied to a pencil 11 by engaging the same friction tight or by being positively fastened thereto in any desired manner. The device may equally as well be attached to a pen or another equivalent article as will be readily understood.
The upper part of the cylinderfrom its periphery is cut away in order to provide shoulders as at '12 and 13. Between the shoulders 12 and 13 a cylindrical portion 14 (if reduced diameter is afforded and above the shoulder 13, a further reduced portion Serial No. 2,652.
15 is provided which is exteriorly screw threaded.
The lower portion of the cylinder 10 is sub-divided into seven vertical rows 15 of equal width and containing numerals to represent the days within a month. Resting on the shoulder 12 and fitted about the portion 14 is a day ring 16 which has vertical rows or divisions of the same width as those at 15 and in which the days of the week are delineated in full or abbreviated as shown. The ring 16 is turnable on the part 14 so that the days of the week may be brought into registry with any of the columns 15 according to the occurrence of the days in the different months which thus makes the calendar perpetual. In order that the ring 16 may be retained in its adjusted position, it has depending lugs as at 17 adapted to enter notches as at 18 in the shoulder 12.
The ring 16 cannot become accidentally displaced since a fastening or securing nut in the form of a ring 18 is screw threaded to the portion 15 and bears on the shoulder 13. When the securing nut 18 is in the latter position, the ring 16 cannot move vertically and thus the notches 17 cannot become accidentally disengaged from those at 18; hence in order to adjust the ring 16, it is necessary to first loosen the nut 18 slightly, then adjust the ring 16 and thereafter tighten the nut 18. This nut 18 has a spring clip or tongue 19 extending therefrom so that it may clip onto a pocket or other portion of the clothing of the wearer in the same manner as an ordinary clip.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of th invention.
What is claimed is 1. A calendar device of the class described having a cylinder provided with delineations representing thedays. of a month, a ring ooacting therewith and adjustable rel atively thereto having designations of the days of th week therofi and means to semore said inplae the device to the clothing or t e user;
2. A calendar of the class described having a cylinder provided With a first reduced portion and With a second reduced portion, the second reduced portion being screw threaded, a shoulder at the junction of the first reduced portion and remainder of the cylinder, a shoulder at the junction of the two reduced; portions, notches the first mentioned shoulder, a ring adjustable onthe first mentioned reduced portion having projections to enter said notches, coacting calendar delineations on said ring and cylinder, and a securing element for the ring screw threaded to the second mentioned reduced portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LAVERN E.- MOORE.
