IDENTYING DEVICE.
Application filed December 28, 1925. Serial No. 78,622.
To all whom t Vmay conce/ra.'
Y ful Improvements in ldentifying Devices;
and l do hereby declare the following` to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the same. Y
This invention relates to improvements in devices for the marking or identifying articles such as tooth brushes. The utility of identifying marlson articles of this cha-racter is quite obvious, but as the character of the identifying marlr will vary, the merchandizing of such articles is greatly simplified by the provision of such identifying marks or markers independently of the articles, and of a character adapted to be readily applied to any particular article selected so that purchasers may have a free choice of the articles in stock, and also a free choice of any Vparticular identifying marker, which identifyingmarker may be readily applied and preferably Without tools to the article selected.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved identifying device and means for attaching` the same to an article such as a tooth brush. y
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts as hereafter more particularly described and claimed.
@ne sheet of drawings accompanys this specification as partthereof in which like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout. Y f
Fig. l is a perspective vieiv of a tooth brush shonf'ing an improved identifying member applied.
ig. 2 is a fragmentary vertical crosssectional vieiv partly in elevation through a part of the tooth brush handle showing the identifying mark about to be applied.
Fig. 3 is a vieny similar to Fig. 2 showing the identifying member applied, and is taken substantially on the line 3 3 of Fig.' 1 J..
Figs. il and 5 are front and back views, respectively, of the improved. identifying n'iember.
Eig. 6 is a side elevation 0f the improved stud member removed or before applying to the article.
Fig. 7 is a bottom plan view of the improved stud member.
'ln accordance with the present invention novel means are provided for securing an identifying member l to the handle or similar part of a tooth brush or the like, which handle is provided with a cutout part orv depression 3 corresponding in shape to that of`the identifying member l. rl`he preferc able form of identifying member is that of a disk as illustrated, and for such a shape the cutout or recess 3 in the handle would be circular, although obviously the shape of member l which consists of a base 5 conforming in shape and of a size to snugly lit under slight compression Within the recess From the base and centrally thereof projects the stud part l having an enlarged Both the stud 4 Y yand the base 5 are provided with radially portion 7 adjacent its top.
. the bottom of the recess, the resiliency of the .segments .of the base forcing the outer edgi-isY thereof int-o firm engagement ivith the Walls of the recess, thereby holding the entire stud part securely in position.
he identifying member l is provided with a bottom 8 having the centrally positioned circular orificev 9 slightly smaller than the diameter of the enlarged part of stud member 4i. l)referablj,Y radial slots l0 are provided at spaced intervals about the orifice 9 so that the portions of the bottom 8 intermediate said radial slots l0 are given a slight resiliency.
In operation the identifying member 1 as selected is applied to the handle 2 by forcing thc identifying member downwardly wit-hin the recess 3, the enlarged portions 7 of stud t being forced into orifice 9, the
Yresilient portions of the bottom 8 of the rllhe stud l is as stated positioned reo as to securely atiix the identifying member l to the handle 2.
Havingthus fully described my invention I claim:
l. In combination, an article having a recess. a compresihle stud having' aresilient hase adapted to engage the walls of the recessv` and an identifying member con'formingin shape and size to the recess and adapted to lseat therein and having` a base provided vvith an orifice slightly smaller in diameter than the stud.
2. ln combination, an article having a recess, a Stud having an enlarged head and a base With radially extendingT grooves extending through the said hase and through a suhstantial part ot' Said stud, whereby said stud may be resilientlv secured in the recess, an identifying member conforming 1n shape and Size to the recess and havine` a haee provided with a centrally positioned recess slighthY smaller in diameter than that ot the enlarged part of the Stud, and havingr spaced radiallvv directed grooves extendingr outwardly from said orifice.
