A. WALLACE FOUNTAIN TOOTHBRUSH Filed Deo. l, 192,5
Patented Dec. 14, 1926.
UNITED STATES ABRAHAM WALLACE, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
FOUNTAIN TOOTHBRUSH.
Application led December 1, 1925.
My invention relates to tooth brushes, and has for its object to provide a neuT and improved fountain tooth brush which is simple 1n construction and efficient in operation.
These objects I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, and as described in the specitication forming a part of this application and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings in which my invention is villustrated and which form a part of the specification, Figure l is a side view of my improved tooth brush. Figure 2 is a top plan view of the tooth brush as invented by me. Figure 3 is a longitudinal section on line 3-3 of Figure 2 with the bristle turned in the opposite direction from that shown in Figure 1 and showing the sli'dable valve for closing they paste opening. Figure 4 is a cross section of the sanitary cap which I screw over my brush when it is not in use or when traveling.
I have improved the tooth brush which was patented to me on July 29th, 1924, under Number 1,502,971, and in order that my present invention may be better understood and the improvements pointed out I have shown the main body of the device as A, having a hollow handle B and with the brush carrying portion C. The handle B has a longitudinally disposed slot 1 cut through its side wall through which a portion of the pressure plate D is operated. A longitudinally disposed groove 2 is formed or cut on the interior face of the brush carrying portion C of the device. A rubber tube E having a narrowed neck portion 3 integral with said tube, is carried and operated within the handle B with the end of said neck portion 3 protruding through the side wall of the ortion C and near the outer end of the brus at 3. A plunger wire 5 is also carried in the interior of the brush, with one end bent at right angles to the. main wire, as at 6, which extends through avnarrow slot 7 which is cut in the wall of the brush, and the other end of said wire 5 is to be moved against the neck portion 3 of the paste tube to shut oft' the flow of paste into the brush. A closure cap 8 having internal threads is screwed over the bristle end of the -device by the internal threads of the cap engaging the threads .9 formed medially on the device. The said cap has per- Serial No. 72,426.
foration in its bottom to allow air to enter and dry the bristles. A threaded plug 10 is screwed into the handle B, and a ring 11 is fastened in said plug 10 by which the entire device ymay be hung or suspended when not in use.
With the paste within the tube E and the Wire 5 moved longitudinally to open the free end of the neck of the tube, a slight pressure on the plate D will cause some of the paste to flow into the brush at the foot of the bristles for use. lVhe'n the device has been used the flow of paste may be Stopp-ed from the hole 3 and thc neck closed by moving Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claimz l.; A fountain tooth brush comprising a hollow handle and a hollow bristle carrying portion connected thereto, said handle being provided with a plurality of slots, and with the bristle carrying portion being provided with a hole near the free end thereof; an elastic fountain tube in said handle for holding tooth paste; a neck portion integral with said tube and adapted to guide the paste through the hole in the free end of the bristles carrying portion; a pressure plate carried in said handle with a portion projecting through one of the slots in the handle; and a wire having a portion eX- tended through the other slot in said handle and adapted to close the hole in the neck portion of said tube.
2. A fountain tooth brush comprising a hollow handle with an integral bristle holding portion; an elastic tube having a neck portion carried in the handle and bristle holding portion respectively and having a cap to close the open end thereof; longitudinal slots in said handle; a pressure plate between-said, handle and tube; having an extended portion passed thro-ugh one of said longitudinal slots; a wire carried in said hollow bristle holding portion and longitudinally slidable to close the free end of the neck portion of the said tube; and a portion of said wire passed through one of said slots; to move said wire longitudinally in said handle.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
