Description

Feb. 2i, 192s.
' Filed March 9. 1927 WITNESS:
INVENTOR ATTO R N EY Patented Feb. 2l, 19.28..
1,659.628 vPATENT OFFICE.
CAMILLE GREENBLATT, 0F LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
TOOTHBBUSH'.
Application filed March 9, 1927. Serial 170.173,999".
This invention relates to combined tooth brushes and dentifrice applying device therefor.
An object of the invention is to provide a handle member adapted to receive the brush for application of the dentifrice.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for controlling thejdischarge of the dentifrice.
A further object is to providey aioss holder carried within one end of thehandle.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, `and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a longitudinalfsectional view taken on line 1--1 of Fi re 2.
.Figure 2 is a longitudinal' sectional bottom plan view.
Figure 3- is a fragmentary elevation of the holder illustrating the mounting of the control device for the dentifrice.
Figure 4 isv a longitudinal sectional view of a modified ,form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein-like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a handle member-'provided with a portion 11 within' the under side thereof. .v p
A tooth brush 12 provided with a shank 13 is pivotally mounted as indicated at 14 within one end of the handle member. Said l shank is provided with depressed portions 15 upon the opposed sides thereof and ad.
jacent its pivoted end to receive projections 16 carried within the opposed side walls of the handle member to rigidly hold the brush in open and closed positions. A collapsible tube 17 containing a suitable dentifrice is positioned within the opposed end of the handle member and which has the discharge neck therefor threaded centrally of a disk member 18. A discharge neck 19 carried by the ldisk member is extended over the bristles of the brush 12 when the latter is folded within the handle member. Spaced arallel elongated slotted portions 20 extende longitudinally of the longitudinal axis of the handle member and upon diametrically opposi'te sides thereof are adapted to receive the outwardly projecting ends of a shaft 21 transversely disposed therein. A clip 22 carried by the shaft 21 Within the handle member is adapted to engage the pinched reduced end ofthe collapsible tube 17. The shaft 21 when slid within the slotted portions 20 will force the dentifrice from the tube 17 into the discharge neck 19 for application upon the brush. A closure cap 23 threaded upon one end of the handle member 10 is provided with a centrally apertured disk 24 adapted to journal the adjacent end of a spool 25 therein carried by and extended through said cap. Said spool has Wound thereon a suitable dental floss which discharges the same through an opening 26 in the cap which is gradually -tapered to provide cutting edges for severing the floss at a desired length. Said opening may also be used in the winding of floss upon the spool. A knob'27 carried upon the outer end of the spool shaft is adapted to rotate the spool -in either direction.
It will be noted from the foregoing descript'ion and accompanying drawing that the invention provides an exceedingly useful and advantageous form of tooth brush which may be fed a suitable dentifrice precedent to opening the same from the handle member to prevent the accumulation of eX- traneous matter due to the fact that dentifrices have ailinities for such matter due to the adhering characteristics thereof.
In Figure 4 ofthe drawing I have illustrated a modified form Yof the invention which embodies the general characteristics of the preferred form but which differentiates therefrom in the substitution of an annular flange 18 for the disk 18 and the elimination of the discharge neck 19. The shank 13 of a brush head 12 is accordingly lengthened to position the brush head 12 in juxtaposition to the discharge end of the tube 17. Said end of the brush head is cutaway, as indicated at 122 to vfacilitate appli-v cation of the dentifrice thereon.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described` what is claimed'is:-
1. A combined dentifrice applying device and tooth brush comprising a housin hingedly connected with thejbrush, a dentifrice container carried bythe housing being the invention,
providedwith a discharge neck located immediately adjacent the brush bristles when the brush is swung within the housing, and a discharge member carried by the housing engageable with one end of the dentifrice container to discharge the contents thereof.
2. A combined dentifrice applying device and tooth brush comprising a housing hingedly connected with the brush, a dentifrice container carried 'by the housing being provided with a discharge neck located immediately adjacent the brush bristles when the brush is swung within the housing, and
a discharge member slidably mounted within the housing and engageable with the container to discharge the contents thereof.
3. A combined dentifrice applying device and tooth brush comprising a housing hingedly connected with the brush, a dentifrice container carried by the housing being provided with a discharge neck located immediately adjacent the brush bristles when the brush is swung Within the housing, a
charge member being adapted for engagement with the container to discharge the contents thereof upon the bristles of the brush. j
4. A combined dentifrice applying deviceand tooth brush. comprising a housing hingedly connected with the brush, a dentifrice container carried by the housing being provided with a discharge neck located immediately adjacent the brush bristles when the latter is swung Within the housing, a sha-ft slidably mounted within the housing, and a clip carried by the shaft being adapted for engagement with the reduced portion of the container and which when slid with the shaft being adapted to discharge the contents of the container upon the brush bristles.
