'I'OOTHBRUSH.
Application filed April 29, 1927. Serial No. 187,551.
This invention relates to tooth brushes, our principal object being to provide a tooth brush consisting of separable handle and bristle members arranged to be easily and quickly ap lied to or detached from each other, so t at various bristle members can be interchanged and used with the one ban The owner of our tooth brush may therefore have an assortment of brushes o of different sizes, grades and arrangement bristles, any one of which may be mounted connection with the one handle for immediate use whenever required. This also permits any bristle member being easily deli; tached for sterilizing, thorough cleaning or 17c as will fully appear by a perusal the following specification and claims.
.ln the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views:
l is a perspective elevation of our brush with the parts assembled.
3 .53;. :iis a similar view of the handle her detached. 1g. 3 is a perspective view of a bristle member detached.
Fig. l is a lon itudinal section of a bristle member and is adjacent portion of the handle.
Fig. is a cross section on the line 5--5 of Fi 4:.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings, the numeral 1 denotes the handle member of suitable material and dimensions. One end of the handle has a tang 2 extending lengthwise therefrom, the tang bein preferably tapered at its outer end in height and the side edges being cut on a slant or bevel as shown. The bristle member to cooperate with the handle comprises a back or bristle holder 3 of suitable len 11 and width, supportin the bristles 4. et in the outer face of the ack and open to one end of the same is a sleeve 5 of non-corrosive metal whose interior dimensions are sha ed and sized to conform to and wedging y receive the tang 2. The bevel sides of the tang and sleeve of course prevents the handle from being inserted upside down. Intermediate its ends the inner surface of the upper face of the sleeve is provided with a small nub 6 to yieldably engage a depression 7 in the tang when the latter is positioned in the sleeve. It will therefore be seen that the bristle member may be firmly yet detachably connected to the handle in a quick and easy manner.
The bristles are arranged in the form of longitudinally extending and transversely spaced rows, all the bristles in each row, except the one 4 furthest from the holder, being cut so that their outer ends lie in convex are relative to the holder both longitudinally and transversely. Said other bristle 4 is preferably as long as the cen trally dis osed or longest bristle in the main port1on of the row as clearly shown in Fig. 4. This provides a relatively high transverse row of bristles at the inner end of the brush which permits of eficient cleaning of the spaces between the back or other teeth at the end of the brush furthest in the month without detracting from the effectiveness of the other bristles for main brushing opera tions against the surface of the teeth.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that we have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
' While this specification setsforth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described our invention what We claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A tooth brush comprising a handle member, a tang on one end of the handle, a bristle holder, and a metal sleeve open on one end and extending longitudinally of the holder to removably receive the tang; the outer side edges of the sleeve being disposed at opposed slopes relative to each other and fitting into a, similarly shaped groove cut in the back of the holder.
A. tooth brush comprising a, handle member, a tang on one end thereof, a. bristle holder, and a sleeve of resilient metal set in the holder and open at one end to reeeive the tang, the face of the sleeve along the back of the holder being exposed to permit the metal to flex, said face having an 10 inwardly projecting nub formed therein to yieldebly engage a depression formed in the tang.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures.
ANGEI/O DAMICO. ABRAHAM L. GREENBERG.
