TONGUE soiiarnn.
Application filed April 4,
My invention relates to a hygienic tongue scraper for use in cleaning the human tongue of undesirable accumulations which tend to form a coating thereon.
It is well known by the medical profession sive and unpleasant breaths are in many cases ca used. by the accumulation of a yellow ma which clings to the tongue. One of the causes of this accumulation isthe acid saliva given oil by the glands in the mouth which generally accumulates upon the tongue at night in the term of a coatin Many persons believe that their systems are :treed of this imdesirable matter by dissolving it with a mouth solution, but overlook its ill ellects when taken into the stomach. ()n the other hand, when this yellow matter has formed into a coating on the tongue, a
.inouth solution will not entirely remove it.
An object of my invention is provide an instrument which is light and very 'eliicient in removing this undesirable matter by scraping the tongue without injury thereto;
Another, object of myinvention resides in a novel form of tongue scraper which is light, of a practical size, capable of use in all sizes of mouths, both adults and children, andof a one piece construction, which renders it entirely hygienic.
Another object of my invention is to provide a tongue scraper having a triangular portion insertable into the mouth, which wil clean the sides of the tongue as well as the center, the. sides of the triangularportion beinggraduated to ard the handle and the scraping edge being beveled to prevent injury to the tongue.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accoi'npanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a j'iers iective view looking downwariilly at the device in its scraping position v Fig. 2 is another perspective view of the device; and Y j Fig. 3 is a verticalsectional view on line 3'3'of Fig. 2.
In the drawings; the device illustrated comprises the mouth portion 2 of triangular taken formation, having the sides 3 and a. a base 5 and a handle 6 joining the sides 3 and a at the apex 7. The edges of the base 5 are slightly beveled or tapered round to pro vide scraping edges 8, which will not out or,

curved portions 9.
Sides 3 and l are slightly graduated in size toward the point where handle Sis joined. This graduation is along both edges of the sides. I prefer to provide the edges of sides 3 and 4: slightly beveled, thesainc as edges 8, to also 'l'orin scraj'nng edges for cleaning thesides of the tongue. hen the device is inserted in the inoi'ith the base 5 will bearagaii'ist the center of the tongue thereby iusing the sides and forward portions of the tongue slightly to bulge upwardly. By graduating the edges of the sides and providing the curved portion? 9, I am able to press against the tongue with the device without injuring the portions of the tongue which bulge. The tongue is very lender and may be easily scored' I, find that it is practically impossible to injure the tongue with my device in view of the manner in which the sides 3 and l and base 5 are formed. i i
Another advantage of this formation is that the entire tongue is thoroughly cleaned of accumulation and the accumulation is collected in the triangular portion so that it will be readily removed at the tip of the tongue.
It will be noted that the tongue scraper isrevcrsible and can be usedon either side. On the other hand, itbis a one-piece instrument, and therefore, readily sterilized. The general design makes the device very adaptable for mouth use and fits into practically any size mouth, whether that of anadult or a child. The base is slightly wider than the sides 3 and 4; which very advantagoously permits thorough scraping of the niiiaith by the scraping edges 8 and at thosa'uie tin'ie allows the sides 3 and to retain the accumulations within the triangular portion in prevent their escape into the mouth. v
I have found that the dailyuse of the device herein disclosed maintains the mouth in Y a strictly. hygienic condition'and is benefic al togthe health of the user.
\Vi thout 'i'urther elaboration 7 without; eliminating certain features, which- I I the foregoing Wlll. so fully explain the gist of my inattached thereto, the base and sides of said triangle having their edges beveled to provide bilaterel scrapping edges, said sides tapering in width toward said handle.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
IGNATZ GROSS.
