Description

Feb. 26, 1929.
M. BENGEL COMBINATION LIP STICK HOLDER AND DAUBER Filed April 28, 1927 Patented Feb. 26, 1929.
UNITED STATES- MARGARET BENGEL, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
COMBINATION LIP-STICK HOLDEZB AND DAUBER.
Application filed. April 28, 1927. Serial No. 187,344.
in which a portion of the tube for protecting the lip stick is utilized as a backing for a daubing pad, the pad covering being removable from the backing for renewal.
A still further object is attained by providing a structure in which means for attaching the pad covering is also employed to re tain a protective cap in position over the dauber. I
With these and other objects in view, appearing as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, it being understood that changes may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any 7 of the advantages thereof.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the device. Figure 2 is aview in elevation the cover cap being in section. r
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through the device.
Figure-4 is an enlarged view in elevation of a portion of the dauber.
Figure .5 is a transverse sectional view on line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a modification of the device.
In the application of lip stick as ordinarily used a portion of the paste is applied directly to the lips from the stick, an even distribution by this means being impossible the user is forced to smear the paste evenly with the finger which procedure is unsanitary, soils the fingers and stains the clothing. To avoid the foregoing disadvantages the present invention has been devised.
The article comprises a case 1 for the lip stick 2. and its carrier 3, and a cover 4, all of the foregoing being old in the art.
Formed integral with or otherwise secured .to the case 1 at one end thereof is a head 5 which provides a backing fora daubing element 6. A circumferential groove 7 is formed at the base of the head 5, in which the skirt of the daubing element is seated. A ringS closely embraces the daubing element forcing it into the groove 7 and securely fastening same to the head.
Slits 9 are formed longitudinally of the head 5 to provide resiliency to the head, so that the ring 8 may be readily forced over the head and into the groove 7, the resiliency of the head also serving to apply tension under the daubing element to hold it taut on the head. The head 5 may be shaped as Slt1)(1)WIl or otherwise as may be found desira e. v
A protective cap 10 surmounts the head 5, the cap having an interiorly formed groove 11 which seats over the ring 8. The cap is thereby held securely in place over the daubing head. I
In the modified form shown in Figure 6 parts corresponding to similar parts of the preferred form have been designated by the same numerals used in the preferred form with the addition of a prime suffix.
The tube 1 is provided with an inner rib 12- which is adapted to engage the covering 6 and force it into the groove 7' of the head 5. The head 5? in this case being separable and independent of the case or tube 1 and may be inserted from the opposite end of the tube 1' so that the covering 6' will be tightly applied to the head 5'.
The cap 10 engagethe rib 12 as shown to secure thecap in place. L
may be formed with a rib to It will be apparent from theforegoing that an attachment for daubing lip stick is provided which is serviceable, convenient and accessible and that may be readily renewed by the user should it become desirable so to do.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
1. In a lip stick container a dauber having a removable covering, a cap for the dauber and interengaging parts on the dauber and the cap for holding the cap on thedauber.
2. In a lipstick holder a head, a covering for the head and means for securing the covering on the head; the head having a longitudinal slit whereby the head is expansible to hold the covering taut on the head. 1
3. A lipstick holder including a. dauber, a 1
including a head and a covering for the head, the head having a circumferential groove, a member for compressing the covering into the groove and a cap having a part interengaging with the compressing member to retain the cap on the dauber.
5. A lipstick holder including a dauber and I a cap for the dauber, the dauber comprising a head and a covering for the head the head having a series of spaced longitudinal slits extending from the extremity of the head whereby the head is compressible to provide means for holding the covering taut on the head, and means for securing the covering on the head.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
MARGARET 'BENGEL.
