Description
F. KILBERG WINDOW CLEANER Filed sept. '7. 192e INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented July 9, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.FRANK KILBERG, or nnrnorr; `ivrroirie-aN;
WINDOW Application filed September The present invention pertains to a novel window cleaner, and the principal object is to provide a device of this character capable of the two operations of washing the window and drying it. In present practice the washing or scrubbing operation is performed by a suitable brush, and the wiping is done by a separate device carrying a rubber strip known a squeegee. As already indicated, the present invention combines these two articles at once and further provides a water tank in fluid communication with the mop member so that the latter need not be dipped. The elongated handle rod of the present construction may be adjusted in its length to meet various conditions.
The invention is fully disclosed by way of example in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in whichm Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper end of the device;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plane view of the head thereof;
Fig. 3 is a section. on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and
F ig. 4 is perspective view of a fabric or chamois that may be used in lieu of a ino 3 head.
eference to these views will' now be had by use of like characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts through out.
In Fig. 1 is illustrated as embodying a telescopic handle rod including a tubular sleeve 1 and a stem 2 slidable therein. The
stein has a series of notches 3 engageable selectively by a catch 4 fitted on the sleeve and passing through a slot 5 therein. The eXtensible handle rod may thus be adjusted to various lengths as desired.
On the upper end of the stem 2 is fitted a T -coupling 6 through which is passed a pipe 7 extending to substantially equal distances at both ends thereof. An elongated holder 8 is fitted to one end of the pipe 7 at right angles thereto and is designed to hold a rubber strip or squeegee t?)a for rubbing purposes. The squeegee 8 may bereplaced by the fabric or chamois 8b illustrated in Fig. 4, having apertures 8 to receive hooks 8d on the holder 8.
To the other end of the pipe 7 is fitted a cross pipe 9 at right angles thereto and in lluid communication therewith. On the top of the pipe 9 is suitably mounted and supported a fiat water tank 10 having sloped CLEANER.
r, 192s. serial No. 304,492.
The side of the pipe 7 in communication with the cross pipe 9 is equipped with a normally spring closed valve 22. The handle 23 of the valve is attached to a chain 24 which is carried along the sleeve 1 and adapted to beheld by a hook 25 on the sleeve. This valve obviously controls the flow of water from the tank to the mop head, and the rate of liow may be further determined by locking the chain 24 to the hook 25 at any suitable point.
In the operation ofthe device, water is supplied to the mop head in this manner, and the latter may be applied to the Window to loosen the dirt thereon. No dipping of the mop is necessary as :in present methods. Vhen the dirt has been released and washed off, the water is wiped olf the window by means of the squeegee 8. It will be evident that the squeegee is locked in operative position merely by turning the handle. The device may be adjusted to different lengths for meeting various conditions by properly locking the stem 2 in the sleeve 1.
Although a specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it will be understood that various alterations in the details of construction may be made without departing from the scope of the invention, as indicated by the appended claims.
lVh at I claim is 1. A window cleaner comprising a handle, a cross head secured thereto, a tank supported at said cross head and in communication therewith, a cross pipe at one end of .said cross head and in liuid communication with said tank through the Cross head, said pipe having bent end shoulders and a clip laid against said pipe and having said ends passing therethrough, nipples mounted on said ends and clamping said clip against said shoulders, and a rack receivable in said Clip and adapted to hold a mop head.
2. A window cleaner comprising a handle, a'cross head secured thereto, a tank sup* ported at said cross head and in communication therewith, a cross pipe at one end of said cross head and in fluid communication With Said tank through the cross head, Said pipe having bent end shoulders and a clip laid against said pipe and having said ends passing therethrough, nipples mounted on said ends and Clamping said clip against said shoulders, and a rack receivable in said clip and adapted to hold a. mop head, and means at the other end of said cross head for supporting a Wiper.
3. A Window cleaner Comprising a handle, a cross head secured thereto, a tank supported at said cross head and in communieation therewith, a cross pipe at one end ot said cross head and in fluid eonnnunication with said tank through the Cross head, said pipe having bent end shoulders and a clip laid against said pipe and having said ends passing therethrough, nipples mounted on said ends and clamping sai-d clip against said shoulders, and a rack receivable in said clip and adapted to hold a mop head, and a valve in said eross head between said tank and cross pipe.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK KILBERG.
