Description
March 24, 1931. D. J. PRICE SAFETY RAZOR BLADE HOLDER Filed Aug. 15, 1930 INVENTOR Jar/a c/ Pr/ae.
ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 24, 1931 UNITED STATES DAVID 3'. PRICE, OF KOKOMO, INDIANA SAIET'Y-RAZOR-IBLADE HOLDER Application filed August 15, 1930. Serial'lio. 475,598.
My invention has for its object to provide a convenient, inexpensive holder for razor blades when it is desired to sharpen the same by stropping and it particularly seeks to provide a holder which will take either Valet, Christy, Gillette or Durham type blades, or those having backs such as the Gem, Eveready, Star and other well known kinds.
Further, it is an object to provide a blade holder for stropping in which the holder is provided with bevelled edges, the bevel of which corresponds to that of the sharpened edge or edges of the blade to be stropped so as to act as a guide and gauging means by which the blade may be mostadvantageously placed when drawn over the stropping strap.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in. part be pointed out hereinafter.
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends, the invention still further resides in the novel details of construction, combination and arrangement'of parts, all of which will be first fully described in the following detailed description, then be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompany ng drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder with a Gillette type blade in place.
Figure 2'is a perspective view of the holder I shown in Figure-1 opened.
the holder.
holder which has a threaded shank 2 at one end and a hinge ear 4 at the other end, the threaded shank having a portion cut away as at 3 to cooperate with and receive the threaded end 14 of the supplemental portion 11 of Both the main and supplemental portions of the holder have their opposing faces flat and provided with longitudinal grooves 5 for the reception of the reinforced strip 18 of the blades of the Gem or Valet type.
Each holder section 1 and 11 is also provided with stud receiving holes 6 and 17respectively for the reception of the studs 7, the reduced ends of which lie in the holes 6 where they are held with sutfieient retaining friction to prevent their dropping out or following the section 11 when the holder is opened.
9 design ates the longitudinal bevelled edges of the holder portions 1 and 11, the inclination of which edges corresponds to the bevel of the other blade shar ened'edge or edges.
10 designates the at outer faces of the holder portions 1 and 11. The supplemental holder portion 11 is provided with hinge ears 12 and a hinge pin 13 passes through the ears 4. and 12 to secure the book-fashion.
The threaded end 14 of the supplemental section 11 corresponds to the part removed at 3 from'the shank 2 and when the sections 1 and 11 are in the clamping position the threaded end 14 and shank 2 are screwed into parts together to open i the threaded socket 16 of the handle 15 which thereby holds the parts assembled.
The razor blade, being held by the holder, is stropped in the usual manner of stropping the old style razor blades and it is thought that fromtheforegoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, operation and advan-. tages of the invention will be clear to those skilled in the art.
When a Gillette type blade is used the studs 7 are retainedin place but when a Gem blade is to be sharpened the studs 7 are removed so that the reinforcing strip 18 may lie in the grooves 5. i
What I claim is:
1. In a razor blade holder, a handle, a'pair of clamping members having flat opposed faces with oppositely disposed grooves in said faces, one of said members having lug receiving apertures registering with the groove thereof, and removable lugs located in said grooves and held in said apertures with retaining friction, and means securin said clamping members together and to sai handle.
2. In a razor blade holder, a handle, a pair of flat clamping plates having flat opposed faces with oppositely disposed grooves in said faces, said members having oppositely disposed lug receiving apertures registering with said grooves, those in one member be, ing of less diameter than those of the other member, and shouldered lugs located in said grooves and apertures and held in the apertures of lesser diameter by retaining friction, and means securing said clamping members together and to said handle.
3. In a razor blade holder, a handle, a pair of flat clamping plates having flat opposed faces with oppositely disposed grooves in said faces, said members having oppositely disposed lug receiving apertures registering with said grooves, those in one member being of less diameter than those of the other member, and shouldered lugs located in said grooves and apertures and held in the apertures of lesser diameter by retaining friction, and means securing said clamping members together and to said handle, said members having their outer longitudinal edges bevelled to lie in the corresponding planes of the bevels of the cutting edges of the blade to be sharpened.
4. In razor blade holders, a handle, a pair. of clamping members carried by said handle, said members having flat opposed faces with oppositely disposed grooves and having oppositely disposed apertures registering with said ooves, and removable shouldered lugs held in the apertures of one of said members with retaining friction, and means to hold said clamping members together and to said handle.
