YATES MARK SUSS, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON VIBRATOR FOUNTAIN' BRUSH Application filed May 10,
My invention relates to vibrator fountain brushes and is an improvement over my copending application for Fountain brushes, Serial Number 423,649, filed January 27, 1930.
Certain objects of my present invention are to pivotally oscillating the brush bristle element whereby a massaging or cleansing effect is provided for said bristle element.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, adaptation, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. These objects are accomplished by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the brush;
Fig. 2 is a view in horizontal section taken substantially on a broken line 2, 2 of Fig. 3;
Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal vertical section taken substantially on a broken line 3, 3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. a is a view in transverse vertical section taken on a broken line d, 4: of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a view in transverse vertical section taken on a broken line 5, 5 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 6 is a view in transverse vertical section showing a modified means for controlling the valve between the upper and lower compartments of the brush.
Referring to the drawings throughout which like reference numerals designate like parts, the numeral 5 indicates a hollow brush body portion having a hollow handle 6 connected therewith at 7 Said hollow body is provided with a horizontal partition 8 which divides the body into an upper compartment 9 and a lower compartment 10. The upper compartment may be used for a soap solution, hair tonic or the like and may be filled therewith through a plugged opening 11. The lower compartment is adapted for water which may be continuously supplied by means of a conduit 12 passing through the hollow comprising a bell crank lever 22 that is op- 1930. Serial No.'451,313.
handle and to the exterior end of which a water carrying hose or tube may be connected. A valve 13 may be interposed in said conduit for controlling the entry of water as described in my hereinbefore mentioned co-pending patent application.
The passage of the soap or other solution from the upper compartment 9 into the lower compartment is controlled by a valve comprising a disc plate 14 having a series of per- 60 forations 15 that are adapted to be brought into registration with corresponding perforations 16 through the horizontal partition 8. Said disc plate is centrally pivoted to said horizontal partition by means of a bolt 17 65 and is held thereagainst bv a spring 18 in stalled around said bolt. The periphery of said disc is provided with teeth 19 and a pinion 20 meshing therewith has a thumb knob 21 disposed eXteriorly of the brush body 5 whereby the disc may be turned to bring the aforesaid perforations into registration. In Fig. 6 of the drawings I have shown a modified means adapted to lift said valve disc and erated by a pivoted pin 23.
A brush back member or bristle element 24 provided with the usual bristles 25. is centrally pivoted to the bottom of the hollow brush body 5 by means-of a bolt 26. Said 80 bristle member is provided with perforations 27 between the bristles and corresponding perforations 28 in the bottom of said hollow brush body are adapted to register with said perforations thus providing means whereby the liquid within the bottom chamber 10 may pass outwardly to the brush bristles as will be understood.
A vertical partition 29 for the upper chamber 9 provides a sub-compartment or chamber 30 wherein an electromagnet 31 is mounted and which is supplied with current by conduit wires 32 passing encasedly through said upper chamber and through the hollow handle 6. A vibratory arm or armature 33 for said electromagnet is pivoted at 34 to a stationary part of the device and the remote end of said arm is connected to the forward end of the brush back member 2a by means of a link arm 35. Thus the vibrating movement of said arm, caused by said electromagnet, will likewise cause the brush back member to oscillate about its pivot bolt 26 as indicated in dotted lines in F ig. 4.
7 It will now be apparent that I have provided a vibrator fountain brush comprising means for applying water to its bristles with a mixture of soap, hair tonic or other solution together with electrical means whereby the bristle element may be pivotally oscilscalp or other parts of the body or which may be used for scrubbing floors and doing other cleansing work.
Having thus described my invention, it bein; understood that minor changes may be resorted to in its construction and arrangement without departing; from the scope and spirit of the invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A vibrator fountain brush having in combination a hollow brush body, a horizontal partition dividing said body into an upper and a lower compartment, a brush back bristle member pivotally connected to the underside of the brush body, a hollow handle, valve controlled means for supplying a stream of water to the lower compartment through the handle, means for supplying), the upper compartment with cleansing and tonic solution, perforated disc plate valve means for passage of the solution from the upper to the lower compartment, means extending exterio rly ofthe brush body for operating said disc valve, means for passage of the liquid mixture from the lower compartment to the brush bristles, a vertical partition for one end portion of the upper compartment forming a sub'chamber, an electromagnet mounted within said chamber, a pivoted armature arranged to be vibrated by said electromagnet, and a link arm connection between said armature and the brush back bristle member 'whereby' pivotal movement is imparted to said brush back member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
MARK soss.
