Description

March 29, 1932 MABRY I 1,851,396
TONGUE SCRAPER Filed Jan. 3. 1930 ZZba M 1 62 Gum/ Patented Mar. 29, 1932 UNITED STATES ELBA K. MALBRY, OF OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA TONGUE scRAPER Application filed January 3, 1930. Serial No. 418,325.
This invention relates to an improved scraper for cleaning the human tongue.
One object of the invention is to provide a handy and eficient device of this character. employing a container which may be filled with a mouth wash or the like for dispensation upon the tongue.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tongue scraper wherein the container is perforated for distributing the liquid upon the tongue during the scraping operation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tongue scraper, the container of which employs a relatively large mouth to facilitate filling.
Still further objects of the invention not specifically mentioned in the foregoing will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the device.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the device partly shown in elevation.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the device.
In carrying the invention into effect, I employ a preferably metal container 1 which is substantially elliptical in cross section and includes converging front and rear walls,
if) said rear wall overlapping said front wall to form a blade 2, the end walls of the container converging upwardly. Formed in the front wall forwardly of and adjacent to the blade is a series of spaced discharge openings 8. Formed in the top of the container is a substantially elliptical opening or mouth 4. As may be seen more particularly in Figure 2 of the drawings, the margin about the mouth is turned to form a surrounding upstanding 11o outwardly flared flange 5 which will tend to facilitate the pouring of liquid into the container. Toward the rear of the container the flange 5 is, as shown in Figure 2, gradually thickened and widened, the upper edge of said flange sloping downwardly and forwardly to the front of the container, and integrally formed at its inner end with the rear portion of said flange at its thickest and widest part is a medially disposed handle 6. Thus, the
junction of the handle with the flange is reinforced by the thickening of the flange so that premature breaking of the handle at this point will be avoided. The handle is gradually widened toward its free end and is bowed first in one direction and then in the other to facilitate the manipulation of the device, the handle being of a length such that the operator may easily reach all portions of the tongue.
In operation, a liquid, such as a mouth wash or lotion, is poured into the container through the relatively large mouth 4 and the device placed upon the tongue to be cleaned.
The device is then manipulated so that the blade is moved across the surface of the tongue for scraping the tongue. As this is done the mouth wash will flow through the discharge openings 3 to be evenly distributed upon the tongue so that the tongue may be thoroughly cleaned.
What is claimed is:
A tongue scraper including a liquid container having converging side walls, one of said walls being extended to form a blade and the other of said walls having a series of discharge openings formed therein above the blade at its distal side, and a handle carried by the container whereby the device may be manipulated for effecting a cleaning operation while a liquid in said container is being dispensed through the discharge openings onto the blade.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
