The internal threads formed withinV magazine 12 extend throughout thelength thereof and piston 42has threads on the annular periphery thereof which engage said threads 80. An .oval-shaped opening 44, formed centrally through piston 42, receives rod 46 which is likewise oval-shaped in cross section in order that the piston 42 may be driven when the rod is'rotated and also to allow movement of piston 42 longitudinally alongsaid rod. To rotate this rod 46, a lmurled cap 48 is provided which serves the two-fold purpose of closing one end of the magazine and acting as an operating member for rod 46. Cap 48 also centers rod 46 and, with bearing plate 50, maintains the same in operative position. Bearing plate 50 is formed to provide a pair o-f diametrically opposite lugs 52, which extend into grooves 54 formed in the side of magazine 12. When moving bearing plate 5l) into the operative position, coupling 18 is removed from magazine 12 and the plate 50 moved into the position shown in Fig. 1. Coupling 18 holds bearing plate 50 in position and the lugs 52 i preclude its rotation with rod 46, the reduced i end 55 of which enters opening 56 of plate 50.
To carry out one of the important featuresV of the invention, this end Vof rod 46 is specially formed to present a squared length 58 which engages means for feeding powder` to the brush head 14 as is hereinafter set down. When the structure is used as illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5hou'ever, a bushing 60 is passed over the squared length 58 which is held in TF' place by a screw 62 in a manner clearly shown in Fig. 8. This construction presents an effective bearing for the end of rod 46 and perforations 64 through plate 50 allow the passage of the cleaning compound to a brush 5 head. The operation of this preferred form is extremely simple, in that merely turning a cap 48 causes rod 46 to rotateV and carry piston 42 longitudinally within magazine 12 to force cleaning compound through per.v L forations 64 and into way 22 through the coupling 18. Y
It is oftentimes desirable to feed cleaning compound in powder form to the brush head of this article. To meet this requirement, a slightly different form of coupling is used as indicated at 80, Fig. 8. This coupling 8O holds plate 50 m position in exactly the same manner as did coupling 18, the main dierence in character between the two being an enlarged opening 82 which houses the helical screw 84. The squared length 58 of rod 46 enters the squared socket 86 formed in screw 84 and turns the same as rod 46 is rotated by the manipulation of cap 48. Obviously the only act necessary to position this screw 84 is the removal of bushing 60 and screw 62. It is to be seen that the feeding means of this fountain brush is within the magazine 'and coupling and that the interchangeable parts thereof are within a coupling which is accessible and easy to interchange. Thus as soon as cleaning compound of a paste form is emptied from the magazine the brush can be altered for use with a cleaning powder with a minimum amount of difficulty. If desired, a clip can be supplied to hold this fountain brush in the pocket as it is being carried and many modifications as to structure might be followed without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is: i u
1. In a fountain tooth brush, a magazine; a brushhead; 'a removable coupling between the magazine and head; a rotatable rod extending longitudinally of said magazine; a plurality of grooves 'along the inner face of said magazine; a removable bearing plate for said rod; and lugs integral with said plate and extending into said grooves whereby to prevent rotation of the plate within said magazine, said coupling being positioned against the bearing plate to prevent longitudinal displacement, and to maintain the plate lugs against one end of said grooves.
2. Ina fountain brush of the character described, a hollow, tubular, Y internally threaded magazine, an externally threaded ycoupling engaging some of said screwthreads; a brushhe'ad in communication with said magazine through said coupling; and a screwthreaded piston movable along the remainder of said magazine screwthreads toward and from said coupling. y
