BOHANAN, OF HONOLULU, TERRITORY F HAWAII COMBINATION srmvma BRUSH AND soar con'ramiinl Application filed April 27,
This invention relates to combination shaving brushes and soap containers and has for the primary object, the provision of a device of the above stated character, whereby the handle of a brush may be employed as a container for shaving soap or cream and having means to permit desired amounts of the soap or cream to be fed into the bristles of the brush so that an eflicient lather may be produced uickly on a persons face without undue e ort on the part of the person and without waste of the shaving soap or cream.
Another object of this invention is the provision of means for permitting the handle to be conveniently filled with shaving soap or cream and also whereby the brush head may be removed to'permit the handle to be employed for dispensing other semiliquids such as tooth paste or the like.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Fora complete understanding of my invention, reference is to behad to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating a combined shaving brush and soap container constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating a feed stem for the piston.
Referring in detail to the drawin the numeral 1 indicates a cylinder provi in a handle for a brush capable of containing shaving soap or cream and has threaded to one end a closure or cap 2 and threaded to its opposite end a closure lug 3 provided with an externally screw-t readed neck 4 to which isthreaded a brush head 5. The head 5 has'set therein bristles 6. The clo- 1932. Serial No. 607,845.
sure plug 3 and the head 5 are provided with aligned openings arranged centrally thereof to removably receive a discharge tube 7 one end of which is enlarged and screw-threaded and threaded in an enlarged portion of the opening of the closure plug 4. One end of the tube is in communication with the interior of the cylinder 1 while the other end terminates a short distance from' the head 5 within the bristles 6 so that when the shaving soap or cream contained in the cylinder is forced therefrom it will be fed into the bristles.
' A piston 8 is slidably mounted in the cylinder 1 and is held against rotation therein by a rib 9 fitting in a groove 10 in the wall of the cylinder and is centrally apertured to receive the squared end 11 of a feed stem 12. The opposite end of the feed stem is enlarged and provided with feed threads 13 meshing with feed threads 14 formed on the interior of a feed sleeve 15. One end of the sleeve 15 is enlarged and provided with external feed threads 16 meshing with feed threads 17 formed on the interior of a rotatably mounted operating sleeve 18.
The closure or cap 2 is provided with a centrally arranged opening in which the operating sleeve 18 is journalled and the latter upon its inner end is formed with a flange 19 abuttin the inner wall of the closure or cap 2. gaid end of the operating sleeve 18 is also provided with a flange 20 adapted to form a stop for limiting the movement of the feed sleeve outwardly of 85 the operating sleeve. The feed sleeve 15 is also provided with a flange 21 acting as a stop to limit the outward movement of the feed stem relative to the feed sleeve 15.
A knurled finger piece 22 overlies the cap or closure 2 and is provided with a centrally located recess or socket 23 provided with a flared portion 24' opening outwardly through one face thereof. The operating sleeve 18 is seated in the recess 23 and secured therein by fasteners 25 carried by the 'finger piece 22. A disk 26-is' clamped between a shoulder 27 on the operating sleeve 18 and the finger piece 22 and is'provided with oppositely disposed tension arms 28 carrying at the free ends thereof balls 29 adapted to ride upon the outer face of the cap or closure 2 and the latter at spaced intervals is provided with sockets 30 in which 5 the balls are adapted to ride into and out of during the rotation of the finger piece 22 for the purpose of indicating to the operator how far the finger piece is rotated and which will permit the operator to determine 10 when desired amounts of shaving soap or cream have been forced into the bristles 6. The tension arms 28 engaging the closure or cap 2 also prevent accidental rotation of the finger piece.
15 In operation with the cylinder filled with shaving soap or cream a person may readily feed intothe bristles the soap or cream in desired amounts by rotating the finger piece 22 in a proper direction which causes the piston 8 to travel towards the closure plug 3 and by so doing forces the soap or cream through the tube 7. Should it be desired to employ the device for dispensing tooth paste or, the like, the brush head may be rcmoved from the plug 3 exposing the end of thetube 7 so that on rotation of the finger piece the tooth paste or the like will be fed out of the tube in desired amounts.
While I have shown and described the 3!)? preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement 0t parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention r as: claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A. combination shaving brush and soap container, comprising a hollow handle, a
GQ'brush removably secured to the handle, a
tube between the brush and the interior of the handle, a piston slidably and non-rotatabliy mounted in the handle, a removable cap closing the other end of the handle and 1 having a centrally arranged opening and spaced sockets arranged in its outer face above said opening, an operating sleeve extending through the opening and flanged to: engage the inner "face of the cap, means between the sleeve and piston to eflect sliding movement of the piston by the rotation of the sleeve, a finger piece having a recess disposed next to the cap, and having a sleeve removably secured in the recess, a plate clamped between the fin er piece andthe sleeve, and resilient arms formed on the plate and located. in the recess with their free ends bearing against the cap to ride into and out of the sockets during the rotation of the finger piece.
In testimony whereof: I affix my signature.
