SOAP DISPENSING SHAVING BRUSH OR THE LIKE Filed June 11, 1952 INVENTOR lazuli Vflronsan (Ala/n11 ATTOR EYS Patented Nov. 28, 1933 I SOAP DISPENSING SHAVING BRUSH R 1 THE LIKE Louis 'V. Aronson, Newark, N. assignor to'Art Metal' Works; Jersey I Inc., 'a"corporation of New Application June 1932. Serial No. 616,631 8 Claims. (01. 15 -138) This invention relates to improvements in dispensing devices for shaving'brushes or the like. Among the objects of this invention are the provision of improved means for dispensing material from a reservoir, provided in a handle, into a brush or the like; the provision of a follower.
operated by air pressure; the provision of a pump for creating air pressure for advancing a follower to dispense soap or the like; the provision of means for controlling the rate at which air is built up in the space behind the followeryand generally the provision of improved means for dispensing soap into a brush.
Other objects of the invention will appear fromthe drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a disassembled view of a shaving brush including a handle used asa container and provided with dispensing means constructed accord--. ing to a preferred embodiment of the invention;
Fig.2 is a vertical central sectionof the assembled shaving brush;v
3 shows the pump controlling valve. as viewed from the line 33 of Fig. 2, part of the.
valve being in section; and r Fig. 4 is a cross section through the handle 0 the line 44 of Fig. 2 showing the valve for closing or-controlling the effective size of the passage through which soap is delivered into the brush.
For the purposes of disclosing my invention I have illustrated'one preferred embodiment of the invention as a shaving brush which includes a barrel 5 made ofany suitable transparent material, and which is preferably exteriorly threaded at its lower end to receive a bottom closure member 6, which together provide a reservoir 7 for soap against which operates a follower 8 provided with a rubber sealing member 9 held,
I the brush 14 is established by providing the bottom member 6 with a conduit 15 which preferably registers with a tube 16 which may be of rubber or any suitable material and may be secured in the base of the brush by any suitable means.
the following description taken in connection with H The effective cross sectional area of the conduit:
15 may be controlled by means of a. screw 17 which may be advanced and retracted; Thefor ward end 18 of the screw 17 is of the samefdiame- V ter as the conduit 15, and for the purpose-of em-. l
ploying-this screw for shutting off the flow ofsoap entirely the conduit 15 is provided with a lateral recess 19 into whichflthe endl8 ofthe screw 17 may be advanced, asclearlyiapparent from Figs. 2*and 4. q m
The other end of the barrel 5 ispreferably also threaded exteriorly upon. which is threaded a top closure member 20 which is provided-with a cylindrical flange 21 constituting a pump cy1in-1 der in which operates a piston. designated .gen- 3 4 erallyat 22, The free end of the'cylinder 21 may be threaded exteriorly to receive the end 1 closure member 23.. This member may be pro-J vided with a port 24 which communicates with. a valve chamber 25 provided with a port26 which may be controlled by a :screw 27 by means of which the rate of flow ofair from the pump chamber to the space behind the piston may be con.-' trolled, for the purposeo'f adjusting the opera--v tion of the pump to buildupany suitable desired'so pressure on the follower 8 a The piston 28 comprises a metallic disk 29, a flexible pump washer 30, and a clampingdisk 31 connected bya screw 32 toaplunger 33 which extends through the opening in the top closure member 20, and which is connected exteriorly of this member by means of a screw 34 to a manipulative member 35which ispreferably provided with a skirt portion 36 slidably engaging the ex; terior of the top closurememb'er 20. 5 The top closure member 20 and the manipulaa tive member 35 are provided with ports 37 and 38 by means of which air may be admitted. behind the piston22 as the piston is advanced and into the space between. these' m'emb'ers as the piston is retracted. ,Upon retraction of the pisa ton the air admitted into the space behind the piston will be forced past the washer 30 into the,
pump chamber. Upon advancing the piston, airis forced from'the pump chamberinto "the space-' behind the'follower 8 and when suificient pres sure is established in this space the follower 8 will be advanced forcing the soap into the brush.
When the brush isnot in use-the-conduit 15 may be closed to prevent any accidental feeding of the soap. ,Thepump device may be operated 1 by holding thebarrelin one hand and by grasping the manipulative member 35 with the. other hand and reciprocating the same. Forthe pur- 1 I pose of facilitating assembly and operation, the 11 91- forced far into the brush.
While the principles of the invention have been described with reference tothe single embodiment shown in the drawing and with referenceto a particular use, it is to be understood that the several features of the invention may be embodied in different forms for different uses,
that it is not the intention to limit the claims to the particular embodiment disclosed, and that any terms imported from the specification intov the claims are to be considered-as words of description ratherlthan of limitation.
