Description
4 Claims.
My invention relates to dentifrice packages, and more particularly to a package for holding and dispensing a supply of dentifrice sufficient for but one brushing of the teeth.
It is an object of my invention to provide such a container which can be produced at a very small cost so that the same can be supplied to travellers, hotel guests, etc., and be disposed of after each brushing of the teeth.
Another object of my invention is to provide such a container which is adapted to present the dentifrice so as to enable the user to apply the same to a tooth brush by dipping or pressing the bristles of the brush into the dentifrice.
A further object of my invention is to furnish a dentifrice container and dispenser which can be conveniently held in the hand of the user while brushing his teeth.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a container for dispensing powdered dentifrice from which the powder may be used in a convenient, economical and sanitary manner without spilling the same.
Further objects and advantages will become apparent in the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the container and dispenser of my invention as applied to the hand of the user.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged, longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the manner of using the device shown in Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawing, a dentifrice package and dispenser 10, comprising a preferred embodiment of my invention, includes a vessel 11 and a cover 13.
The vessel 11 is made of relatively thick paper or any other suitable inexpensive material of sufficient thickness and body to render the same fairly rigid. Formed centrally of the vessel 11 is an elongated relatively shallow cavity 15, one end of the vessel 11 being formed to provide a curved portion 16. The marginal edge portions of the vessel 11 surrounding the cavity 15 are curved slightly upward to provide a relatively wide deck 1'7. As shown in Fig. 2, the cavity 15 is filled with a dentifrice powder 18.
The cover 12 is preferably made of a thin transparent material, such as waxed paper, Cellophane, or the like, and is formed to provide a 551? tab 20 at one end thereof. The cover 12 is 1933, Serial No. 666,535
gummed on its under side adjacent the edges thereof and sealed to the vessel 11 so as to enclose the powder 18 within the cavity 15. As seen in Fig. l, the cover 12 is preferably semi-perforated adjacent its edge, as indicated at 21, to facilitate tearing the center portion of same from over the powder 18 when it is desired to use the latter.
To use the dentifrice 18 the device 10 is held as shown in Fig. 1 with the curved portion 16 thereof hooking over one edge of the users hand. The powder 18 is exposed for use by tearing the center portion of the cover 12 from the vessel 11, thus allowing the user to apply the powder to a tooth brush 22 as shown in Fig. 4. The inclined deck 17 of the vessel 11 helps to prevent spilling the powder onto the hand.
The device 10 is designed to contain sufficient powder for one brushing of the teeth, it being clear that the vessel 11 is disposed of after being used.
It is thus seen that I have provided a simple inexpensive and sanitary device in which dentifrice powder may be marketed and from which the powder may be conveniently used. It is also seen that the device 10 is suitable for distribution on trains, ships, hotels, etc., thus relieving a person of the necessity and bother of carrying a supply of dentifrice when travelling.
It is to be understood that other materials such as Cellophane, celluloid, wood, etc., might be substituted for paper in the device of my invention.
Although I have shown and described but one form of my invention, it is to be understood that modifications and changes might be made in the device disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In an article of manufacture suitable for supplying dentifrice for a single application, the combination of: a relatively heavy, stiff paper vessel adapted to lie in the palm of the hand, a shallow cavity being formed centrally in said vessel, said cavity being adapted to contain a quantity of dentifrice, the marginal edge portions of said vessel being extended upward to provide a relatively wide inclined deck disposed outwardly from said cavity; and a relatively light paper cover secured on the upper surface of said vessel so as to enclose said dentifrice in said cavity, said cover being adapted to be ruptured to obtain access to said dentifrice.
2. In an article of manufacture suitable for supplying dentifrice for a single application, the
combination of: a relatively heavy, stiff paper vessel adapted to lie in the palm of the hand, a shallow cavity being formed centrally in said vessel, said cavity being adapted to contain a quantity of dentifrice, said vessel being formed to provide a downward curved lip at one edge thereof, said lip embracing an edge of said hand when the article is disposed in the palm thereof; and a relatively light paper cover secured on the upper surface of said vessel so as to enclose said dentifrice in said cavity, said cover being adapted to be ruptured to obtain access to said dentifrice.
3. A combination as in claim 2 in which said cavity is elongated and formed in said vessel so that the longitudinal axis of said cavity is dissaid dentifrice is being engaged by a brush.
ARLISS ISBELL CROWTHER.
