Abstract

In a device to aid in the application of eyelash makeup comprising a handle and a shield having an edge shaped to generally conform to the shape of the human eyelid, and providing a surface for eyelashes to lay over, the improvement comprising grooves on the surface radiating from the edge and extending to a length approximating the length of a human eyelash and spaced apart approximately the same distance as are human eyelashes, whereby the grooves promote the separation and elongation of eyelashes during the application of eyelash makeup.

Description

  • This application claims the benefit of co-pending U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 60/274,311, filed Mar. 8, 2001.[0001]
  • BACKGROUND OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • There are a number of patents that have been set forth to aid in the application of eye makeup. [0002]
  • Collectively the referenced patents offer a smooth surface for the eyelashes to lay over, this allows the eyelashes to clump together giving an undesirable effect. [0003]
  • U.S. Pat. No. 2,035,667 proposes an eyelash comb that could be used for the application of mascara, leading to the problem of the device itself obstructing the view of the individual attempting to use it. [0004]
  • SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • The improvement of the present invention ([0005] 10) that is unique is the presence of grooves (18) positioned on the surface on which eyelashes lay over so as to provide an ideal surface for the separation and extension of the eyelashes.
  • One embodiment of the present invention is in a device to aid in the application of eyelash makeup comprising a handle and a shield having an edge shaped to generally conform to the shape of the human eyelid, and providing a surface for eyelashes to lay over, the improvement comprising grooves on the surface radiating from the edge and extending to a length approximating the length of a human eyelash and spaced apart approximately the same distance as are human eyelashes, whereby the grooves promote the separation and elongation of eyelashes during the application of eyelash makeup.[0006]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIGURES
  • FIG. 1 is a front view of the [0007] eyelash makeup shield 10 of the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a right side view of the makeup shield of FIG. 1. [0008]
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective front view of the makeup shield of FIG. 1. [0009]
  • FIG. 4 is a rear perspective view of the makeup shield of FIG. 1. [0010]
  • FIG. 5 is an enlarged perspective front view of the [0011] grooves 18 of FIG. 3.
  • FIG. 6 is a front view illustrating the use of the [0012] makeup shield 10 of FIG. 1.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
  • The present invention ([0013] 10) provides a device to aid in the application of eye markup (more specifically mascara), comprising a handle (12) and a shield (14). Said handle (12) is ergonomically designed, and said shield (14) has an edge shaped to generally conform to the shape of the human eye. Said device (10) has grooves (18) radiating from said edge (16) extending to approximately the same length of an average humans eyelashes for the separation and extension of the eyelashes. Said grooves (18) are spaced one to another approximately the same distance as are the average human eyelashes. The device (10) in its preferred embodiment is placed between the eyelashes and the skin of the individuals' face, automatically positioning the grooves (18) directly behind the eyelashes. This provides the individual applying the makeup an ideal backing surface to separate and extend the eyelashes without inadvertently getting excess makeup on the skin. The device (10) could be made of any moldable material through pouring, injection, or compression.

Claims (1)
