The cot would normally remain in mounted disposition on the ring whereby the cot and ring constitute an applicator unit; removal of the cot from the ring would generally be effected only for a cleaning or replacement thereof.

A protective enclosure is provided for the cot yI4 when the applicator unit is not in use, the enclosure elements utilizing the ring I5 as a mounting means therefor. As -particularly shown, caps 2| and 22.are provided for mounting at the outer and inner ends respectively of the ring, the cap 2| being shaped to receive the non-collapsing cot I4 therein without any contact with it, and the cap 22 being arranged to extend across the inner ring end to close the space 23 jointly provided within the cot and ring. The cross-section of the two caps are each similar to that of the ring I5 whereby the space occupied by the assembly of the caps with the ring may be a minimum. It will be noted that the applicator may be placed on or removed from a nger While the cap 2| is mounted in place on the ring I5.

As particularly illustrated, the ring I4 is intermediately formed to have an encircling flange 24 thereabout for providing a stop to limit the degree of engagement of the caps 2| and 22 on the ring. The caps are formed of stiff sheet material 'and are arranged to frictionally embrace the ring at opposite sides of the stop flange 24, it being noted that the outer face of the base portion of the cot I4 preferably lies within the outer surface of the ring portion which is engaged in the base of the cap `2l whereby it may not be injuriously contacted by the cap as the latter is mounted on, or is dismounted from, the ring.

The space 23 which is jointlydened by and within the cot I4 andv ring I5 may be utilized as a container, its use as a storage place for the rouge stick I2 being particularly'indicated in Figure v6. As indicated in Figure 1, the applicator may be mounted on a nger of a hand which holds the rouge stick for the application thereof; in this manner, the applicator and stick may be alternatively applied as required with only one hand in use for the purpose.

While for hygienic reasons it is generally preferable that the cot I4 have a closed outer end forcompletely enclosing the finger tip and its nail, it will be understood that a fingernail opening might be provided in the cot end for permitting the protrusion of a long finger nail therethrough. and from the cot. The latter arrangement would, of course, prevent the reversible mounting and use of the applicator cot which is hereinbefore particularly shown and described.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and method of use will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the present invention appertains. While I have described the features and the principles of operation of a device which I now consider to be a preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to have it understood that the speciflc showing is primarily illustrative, and that such changes may be made, when desired, as fall within the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. A rouge applicator comprising a nger cot of flexible and elastic material for mounting in stretched condition on the outer end portion of a persons finger; the cot wall being imperforate and smooth and relatively thin at its rounded end portion whereby the sense of touch of a finger tip therein is arranged to be operative therethrough with a minimized degree of interference therewith.

2. A rouge applicator comprising a finger cot of soft vulcanized rubber or the like for mounting in stretched condition on a persons finger, the cot wall having smooth surfaces and being so thin at its rounded end portion that conditions at a rouge-receiving surface engaged therewith are arranged to be readily felt therethrough by a nger therein.

3. An applicator for use in depositing and/or spreading and/or smoothing material at a surface and comprising a finger cot of flexible and elastic material for mounting in stretched condition on the end portion of a persons finger, the rounded end portion of the cot being imperforate and as thin as possible whereby conditions at said surface when touched therewith may be readily felt therethrough by a. finger therein, and the remaining cot wall portions being relatively thick whereby the cot is arranged to retain the general shape of a finger end when dismounted.

An applicator of the class described comprising a cot of exible andl elastic material for mounting on a finger and adapted for the direct application of an imperforate tip portion thereof `tojal surface for depositing `and/or spreading and/or smoothing material'onthe surface, and a finger ring 4of relatively inflexible and inelastic material fixed to said cot at the inner end thereof 'in coaxial relation therewith, said 'cot and ring having mutually similar elliptic cross-sections therealong.

A new article'of manufacture comprising an applicator cot of flexible material for mounting on a persons finger and adapted for the direct application of an outer end portion thereof to a surface for depositing and/or spreading and/or smoothing material thereat, a nger ring of relatively inflexible material fixed to said cot at the inner end thereof in coaxial relation therewith, a closed cap of relatively inexible material removably mounted on the outer end portion of said ring andenclosing the cot without contact there-- with and as a protective means for the cot exterior, and a closed cap of relatively inexible mate rial removably mounted on the inner end of said ring for cooperation with the ring as a protective means for the cot interior.

7. A new article of manufacture comprising an applicator finger cot of flexible material and'noncollapsing structure, -a nger ring of relatively inexible material carrying said cot at its outer end, a Vclosed cap of relatively inflexible material removably mounted on the inner end of said ring and cooperative with the cot and ring to define a closed receptacle space within the cot and ring, and means on saidcapfto mount an article thereon whereby said'article may be disposed in said space in xed spaced relation t'o the cot and ring when the cap is mounted on the ring.

8. A new article of manufacture comprising an applicator cot of flexible ymaterial for mounting on a persons finger and adapted for the direct application of an outer end portion thereof to a surface for depositing and/or spreading and/or smoothing material thereat, a nger ring of relatively inflexible material xed to said cot at the inner end thereof, and a closed cap of relatively inflexible material removably mounted on the inner end of said ring for cooperation with the ring as a protective means for the cot interior.
